About to take advantage of discount tire a 100 off 400 deal and pull the trigger on some 285/70/17 trail grapplers. Another $70 manufacturer rebate puts them at my door for $700.

Do you guys think I should buy the warranty with it? I'm not sure if its even offers with this deal I would have to call to find out. I do a lot of highway driving, and my guess is the warranty would cost me about $130. In all the time I've been driving (only 3 years) I've gotten 1 nail in my tire which was easily plugged.

I know warranties exist to make money, but do you guys think its worth the gamble?

I chose not to, and here's why:

If you have to use your warranty, DT will only replace the damaged tire (for an additional fee). With a 4 wheel drive vehicle, it is always recommended to replace all 4 tires at once or AT LEAST 2, if there is still substantial tread left. Then, you have to buy new warranties for the new tires (not sure if the damaged one's warranty carries over). In any case, I figured that the warranties wouldn't save me much money if I ever had to use one, and it's just not worth the headache. Also, I'm pretty sure that if you go 1 mile over 5000 between rotations, you lose your warranty.

However, if you do want it- you should be able to buy it at an actual Discount Tire if you get them mounted/balanced there.

I love no where remotley close to a discount tire, so I would have to deal with the warranty over the phone. Thanks for your insight though. I'm currently leaning slightly away from the warranty

I never buy the warranty, for what it cost to buy the warranty for a "what if"I d rather take my chances and buy a new tire if I need it.

I'm reviving another old thread. I never pay extra for a freakin' second warranty. I expect the manufacturer to honor their warranty and if I'm paying the money for a quality product I've found that I never need anything other than the manufacturer's warranty to begin with. I've never used a warranty in my life and my thought is that if the manufacturer won't honor their warranty with one phone call I just never buy their product again and I would tell them that at the time. That's the best "threat" you can use and it doesn't cost a dime to follow through with it either. I'd say it's even better than threatening to sue. I've had products that fail in the past and if the company won't do anything about it I just don't buy their junk anymore. Those experiences have been VERY rare for me though depending on the company and the product or service they supply. Every manufacturer understands that "word of mouth" can sink them. On the other hand? I take into consideration whatever I might have done wrong with the product. It's unfortunate there are so many "freeloaders" these days who just milk the warranty for free stuff when they are those that are fault and it costs us all.

The bottom line? 90% of the time you get what you pay for.

Just get a warranty on one tire. Let them figure out which one when you bring it in.

Oh, they probably have various numbers in their stupid computer systems that will tell them. Besides, if you buy a set of 4 or five it won't make any difference.

The people running the show aren't the ones that are paying the bills and every time I've been there it's all about the customer. There are always about 20 people in the waiting room/front room, not really a place to confront a customer over petty shit.

I have Trail Grapplers myself and they are a really tuff tire, I wouldn't worry with a warranty on these tires. Hell, on our trucks you probably won't even be able to tell if you're flat. They are hard tires made for trucks twice our size.

Don't do this. Tires have serial numbers.
