I just bought my 2017 Tacoma last week and the woman in the finance department tried to sell me the Toyota platinum 7yr/100,000 mile warranty for $2,300. I was looking at other threads before I went to the dealer and a lot of people were saying they paid about $1,000 for it so I told her that's what I would pay. She said they can no longer negotiate warranties because of some law that was passed a couple years ago. Should I try calling other dealers to see what they can do, or is this an actual law that was passed in Florida?

They can still negotiate. Unless it's based by what ever state you live in. The dealer we always go to gives me employee pricing for warranties. I'd ask around and do your homework.

Don't know about Florida law but that sounds like BS to me, I paid $1,400 for 8 years/ 100,00 miles and I've seen people on here saying that they paid even less. Shop around!

I would consider it. They threw the the 8 year/100,000 platinum into my purchase for under $1,000 (since we already get 3 years/36,000 miles...you are really buying 5 years/64,000 miles additional warranty). The way I looked at it, that was less than $200/year for those extra 5 years. That is pretty darn cheap for a little extra peace of mind. Also, since I fly weekly, i don't put that many miles on my vehicle (between 9-10,000/year) so I knew I would likely get that full 5 extra years out of the warranty. If I drove 20,000 miles/year...not so sure I would have considered it.
Remember it is negotiable...no way you should pay $2,300 for it. Do a search on this site, you will find places that will sell it much cheaper (you do NOT have to buy the protection from the same dealer you purchased the truck from!)

Sounds like they might have been trying to lump in all the other extra stuff (wheel/tire protection, key loss, that windshield coating thing, etc...); or at least that was the case when we were signing on ours and they threw out a similar number. FWIW, I said nay to all of it... guess I like to live dangerously, lol.

If you buy or not is your choice but when i bought my 14 in Nov the finance guy wanted to sell me one for $1600.
He told me it was a toyo warranty but when I researched it it was from an indy company.
When i went to pick up truck I called him on it and he said well its just as good. He was a dumb ass!!

There's a reason they hard sell these warranties so much and it's not because they're losing $$ on the deal.

My 8 year 125k was right around $1500, you should be able to negotiate a better price.

Extended warranties are not worth it, not just for a truck, but in general. Also I hate gamboling on failure, which is what an extended warranty is. The way they push em these days its clear that the 'casino' is making bucks.
I've never had a vehicle problem bad enough that it cost more to fix than the warranty would have cost.

Just an opinion, your mileage may vary.

He was joking, several guys that were riddled with issues were given a free extended warranty.

Purchased at time I got the truck from the dealer. They also gave me Toyota care for 6 years for a insane low price. (Buddy works at the dealer)

Honestly depends. I purchased one for my BMW for 2k. Over the course of the 4 years I had over 14K of work done with the warranty.

That's great it worked for you! You gamboled on something major going wrong with the car during the warranty period and won. For most though, they lose on this gambol. That's how the warranty companies make bank.

I think an extended warranty could be worth it in situations where the buyer couldn't afford a surprise large fix it payment. :hattip:

To keep these warranties valid don't you have to do ALL scheduled maintenance at the Toyota dealership for the life of the warranty? I think that's where they make their money. Am I wrong?
