I always had ford trucks. I do not need any think that big now. This is my first Tacoma and love it. The A/T works fine. Went on a trip 75 miles 24 mpg average speed 60-65 mph. I only have 200 miles on the Tacoma. Old school beaking it in. Around town 20.5 mpg. I did grease the universal joints. Other than that drives and rides great. I will be towing an enclosed snowmobile trailer. About 2200 lbs put its like pulling big parachute behind you. Good luck

I went from a 2000 Ford F-250 7.3L diesel extra cab 4x4 to a 2015 Tacoma TRD Off-Road 4 dr. Absolutely loved the Ford, great truck, the 7.3L diesel is legendary. Sold it to a young petroleum engineer who will put it to good use and probably get another 10-15 years of use out of that truck.
My 2015 Tacoma is better suited to my use now and I don't regret for a minute making the change. I don't need a full size truck, don't do any major hauling, no large trailers so it works for me. If you need a full size truck, the Tacoma isn't the right choice. If you need a mid sized truck the Tacoma is a great choice. Only you can make that call.

I am a Chevy convert. I went from a 2004 Silverado (which I LOVED) to a 2005 f150 (free work truck). Then I had a 2001 Cherokee that was more of a toy that I had while I daily drove the f150. My 2015 DCSB tacoma is the first midsize truck I've ever owned and I've loved it. I don't feel like it's underpowered in relation to the whole package. It gets up and goes when I tell it too. It holds the same number of people as my old f150 and Silverado and I don't have any trailers to tow so that part is moot. I love the nimble handling of this truck. Sometimes I wish I went with a long bed, but that's rare and mainly circumstantial. I truly don't regret anything about this truck. I hunt, fish, camp, haul my kayak, and this truck has been the most accommodating. The aftermarket support, the vast array of factory accessories, the overall reliability and capability really pulled me in to the tacomas. You won't regret "downsizing". It'll be an adjustment, but you'll be happy with it.

OP, wait 7 or 8 years for some of the kinks to be worked out. Then re-evaluate.

I was in some mountains yesterday. I used the S feature and liked the way it worked . Little to no braking going down and no shifting going up.

Honestly look through the titles of 1st page of TW world threads. A good chunk of them are complaints. Naturally Tacoma World will magnify small issues but a good portion are very disappointed in their gen 3's.

I've had big trucks, and little trucks. I'm really happy with the Taco..... I did decide to just accept the shifting as it was just designed for getting better mileage. Again, I'm happy with it.

I would test drive the 2016 taco quite a bit on freeway and hills also other trucks too. Also drive a 2016 4runner and 2015 tacoma to compare. I've been less than pleased with how the 2016 performs on the road. I can honestly say after 6k miles on my 16 the tranny and motor is a let down. You certainly won't save much gas mileage either.

I love my truck, but you have a virtually new truck already...why not get the use out of it and avoid the depreciation hit you will certainly take, unless your Silverado is a company truck.

Just switched from Silverado I would do it again in a heartbeat just got over 20 mpg going 85 mph for a couple of hours straight. I will never go back to Chevy all of the new reliability ratings for the new trucks are crap. Make sure u get a long bed and for sure spring for trd off road

Give it time. Many are not complaining until after 5k to 7k miles

I am looking at buying a 2016 late year or 2017 Tacoma. At one point I thought about buying the tundra. I sat in one and was amazed at how much room it had. I felt like I was in a bus. Then it dawned on me I work in the city and will be doing a lot of parellel parking between cars. Also the drive into the city can be a hassle with stop and go traffic. After my thoughts on that for 5 minutes I got out of the tundra and said no thank you. I will stick with the Tacoma.

lol, when I went to do the paperwork for my Tacoma I sat in a Tundra that was on the showroom floor and the wheels started turning. I always loved the Tundra but not the price tag. This one was marked down to 42K and figured I could likely get them lower with negotiation but than remembered as nice as it is that I really do not need such a big truck albeit my girls who are still in car seats would be much more confortable in the back seat. Plus I have a friend with a Tundra and he's always complaining about the gas mileage as he only runs local and no highway which is what I do_Once I get the girls car seats in the truck I will either be fine with my decision or quickly have buyers remorse. Driving wise I couldn't be happier with my third gen and am much happier with it than I was with my 2010 that I traded in back in 2013.

the Tundra is a great truck. I used to get a new truck every 3 years from the company, and I have had 3 tundras and several F150's and an F250. The Ford typically has a better ride. The Tundra rides better with weight in the back or it can be bouncy. And the Tundra is very thirsty. But I always liked the higher field of vision in the Tundra.

The Tacoma is a good compromise between utility and mpg's. Imho the longbed makes for more utility too.

Makes you wonder how many actual 3rd gen owners are TW members, maybe 10% or so? Of that, how many of those members are posting about problems they're having maybe 10% of that? How many of those problem posts are actual problems or just "perceived problems" because it doesn't perform as they expect /hoped, it's their first truck and doesn't perform as a car? You're right, TW can amplify a very small percentage to make isolated things seem like they occur across the entire production run. Not saying trucks and people aren't having problems but dont let just what you read on the internet sway your decision process.

For the OP, get out and do some actual research, drive some trucks and see for yourself if they perform the way you like. If they do, buy one, if not shop for something else. TW and some biased and unbiased reviews leave a lot of stuff to filter through so take anything you read with a grain of salt.

I can't tell you what you should or shouldn't or buy. I can only tell you what I like, why I like it and what made me buy it. What I like and what you like could be opposite ends of the spectrum. If you're interested in buying a Taco, get off the computer and go drive a few.

Made the switch from a 2009 Sierra Z71 which was a complete pos to a 2016 Tacoma. This was my first mid-sized truck so the downsized interior and less power threw me off for a couple weeks but after 5 months and 8000 miles I couldn't be happier. Not a single issue. Then again I got the most basic version you can buy an sr utility package. Seems like a lot of the issues people are having are with the upgraded versions with more electronics. Like what most people are saying on here test drive a couple and see what fits you.

It's also the same people posting over and over about their problems, which makes it look like a bigger sample than it really is.

I am not discounting the fact than some unfortunate owners are having issues - they clearly are.
