i got my truck at San Juan Capistrano Toyota, I paid 1500 over msrp, however they gave me 2500 more than any other dealer, caravana, Carmax and vroom would give me on my trade in so it evened out.

I put a deposit down on a Saturday for a truck in transport and it arrived Tuesday. I filled out the paperwork they overnighted to me on Monday. Drove down to pick it up the following Saturday (7 days after putting the deposit down). Walked in the dealer at 9am and left at 9:24am. May want to check them out.

    however there’s also

Salinas Toyota and Sunnyvale Toyota in NorCal. They have no dealer markup. I’ve dealt with both of them and I’ve had no issues with them.

I would ask for updates as I please, if they were not satisfactorily answered, ask for my deposit back and wish them well as I was leaving.

I’ve walked away from many cars deals when things get silly, I alway say thank you : ).

My FiL sold toyotas. Then switched to the service department. Now he works service for Nissan. He would disown me if I bought a frontier over a taco lol.
Even Nissan employees don't want the headache of owning a Nissan.

Yeah, not interested in Nissan, I have a F150 now and I'm not interested in them either.

I too looked for 5 months, end up buying a Tacoma 270 miles away, out of state, gave me 2k more for my 2012 Tacoma than anyone close by. Salesman was genuine, made a deal over the phone with pictures of my trade in. I got there and they stayed true to there price, 1k under msrp & i purchased jan 1st, they delivered my new truck to me jan 15 th, it was the day after it came in!

So look hard, don't get impatient and contact every dealer your willing to drive to (even out of state ) someone will want your $ for exactly what your looking for!
    Good luck

yup I RAN into that in colorado. Im in texas. I called about 10-13 states before i found exactly the truck I wanted in Missouri with 3k mark up. Finally bit the bullet and paid mark up. I had 2 dealers here in DFW that had allocations for me with no deposit and no mark up but not ever sure if my truck would come. Other dealer here had exact truck I purchased out of state but with 8k mark up. I take a $100 one way flight and 10 hour cruise home in my new truck over paying that kind of mark up. Only paid the 3k cause daily is on its last leg, no pun intended (pegleg joke) otherwise I would've waited till at least september for the other 2 dealers.

Just look around!! There are dealers with trucks coming soon all over. I just kep changing the zip code and building on the website then calling all the dealers listed to see if it was coming to them.

Wow, that is pretty brazen. If they had a written agreement with you on a 'final' VIN, that is getting really close to a breach of contract.

On the other hand, deposits in CA are non-binding and fully refundable. I don't think you stand to 'win' anything by escalating. But that dealership should have its reputation dinged.

You were willing to pay a significant markup, it's pretty absurd they wouldn't follow through.

That's a horrible idea. What time?
Standard practice here amongst all the local dealerships. Based on vehicle demand and MSRP.

    UPDATE:

I am leaving in a few minutes to drive to Bakersfield to pick up my Tacoma. By stroke of luck it was unloading today and hadn't been reserved. It's a premium package TRD Sport 4WD w/ six foot bed.

Only thing I didn't get was my silver color, this one is black. I'll post a pic tomorrow because I won't get home till late. It's a 2 hour drive down there. I'm excited.

I don’t know if I will ever buy another Toyota again. My wife was looking for a new 4Runner. In my area, I found one dealership that wasn’t selling over MSRP. Most are wanting $5-10K over. The GM and Ram dealerships that I have spoke to are selling at MSRP, or under. She ended up buying a new Jeep Grand Cherokee L under MSRP, and got top dollar on her trade. This is my first Toyota, and after dealing with the arrogance the dealerships have displayed with no remorse of gouging customers, I am afraid it could be my last. Rant over.
