Lucifer1...like, kind, and quality refers to home owners contents replacement. Also it is not a given. check your policy. there is an upcharge for Like kind and quality replacement. FYI Mr. Desmodue. imagine you really customized your grill. think diamonds. say you dumped a quarter million dollars in your custom grill. Okay auto insurance pay up. like kind and quality. those were GIA certified SI2 all the way around my grill:)

P.S. you shoulda seen the scrambling at the intersection when the wreck happend

OK, let's start over. IF the OP is at fault and making a claim against his policy, yes he is entitled only to OEM replacement unless he specified coverage for the aftermarket items on his truck.

I assumed (yeah I know) he was hit by another driver who was at fault. Expecting to be made whole is not unreasonable, the fact most insured just roll over and take it is why the insurance companies dictate how you will be compensated, and you will take made in China bullshit parts on your new vehicle, etc. etc.

As opposed to the already "Made in China" parts on our trucks? Our trucks are assembled in the US and Mexico but I would be willing to bet most parts are imported from all over the world.

Yeah that looks like pheasant damage lol.

I had geico buy me a new ARB bumper and winch just by working with my body shop. I smoked a pheasant at 75mph and it trashed my headlight and bumper. I had my auto body shop repair what could be repaired and they installed the new aftermarket stuff on geico’s dime.

USAA and state farm cover aftermarket parts. USAA also covers up to $5k in custom parts. They both are very flexible when it comes to make modifications during the repair process as long as you cover the difference.

From my experience, you have every right to make any changes as long as your policy allows it, pay any difference in parts and labor and you speak with the repair shop to see if they will partake in the change.

This is where it helps to know the body shop. Every time I'm in for insurance work they work with me to get my truck exactly the way I want it. In some cases I have them order me aftermarket parts to replace the one that was damaged and they just prorate whatever the OEM part cost towards it.

Depends I if you were at fault or them. If their insurance is covering it they have to return the truck to the condition it was prior to the accident. That includes paint. If it's your insurance covering it they only have to turn it to factory level unless you files out the customization form when you got insurance. At least that's the law in North Carolina.

Correct. You are paying for insurance on an oem vehicle. If you want your aftermarket parts covered then you have to tell the insurance company and then they charge your a monthly premium to cover those said parts.

They will still pay but they will pay as if the part was damaged was an oem part. For example, factory bumper costs $800 to totally replace and paint. Your aftermarket bumper costs $2000. You will get a repair for $800. Hypothetical numbers obviously

In my many incidents of my vehicle getting vandalised and deers running into my truck, I ask the insurance company for a check so I can fix it myself to save my deductible and they do it every time. And every time I save a ton of money and use the leftover to do what I want to my truck. You of course need the skills to do body work or whatever (not hard to replace panels).

A deer ran into my taco in November and I replaced the fender, grill, and driver door and had money leftover to linex the entire truck and had money left to buy a shrockworks bumper in December...which I am still waiting on :)

No real input from me, but I would be ok with the new OEM smoked one. I'm assuming it's the '18-'19 grill. They look pretty good really and more than likely since you're on TW you will change it out eventually.

Sure the insurance company will be more than happy to insure whatever unicorn rainbows you paint on your truck for an added monthly fee you have negotiated and paid pre-collision

Ok you got a point there only problem is that his insurance company will not persuade this! He will have to hire a lawyer himself and go after the other insurance for any sentimental values and losses occurred
