I have a budy that wants my 02 Tacoma double cab pre runner trd, with 98k miles, said he would give me 13k cash. I did some work for a guy that has a 07 Tacoma double cab long bed pre runner trd with 58k miles, he said he does not like it, he said it rides ruff, and he is not happy with it. ( he never owned a truck, just luxury cars) He said he would give it to me for pay off witch is 16,500$. He is the original owner with no accidents. So I see it as trading my truck plus 3500$ for a 5 year newer truck, kinda a no brainer I think, and a great price, but would like some input from the pros! Any known issues with the newer trucks?

That does seem like a pretty good deal. The 07 is definitely newer and you could get it for a good price, but if I was in your position, I would be hesitant to let the 02 go. IMHO the 3.4 is a proven motor...can't comment on the 4.0 since I only had it for a month and a half.

I would add what this guy said, the motor is great but all the other crap around it tends to fall apart. If the 07 is under warranty go for it, if not keep the 02.
