I'm looking at the possibility of moving to Oregon but know nothing of the state in regards to weather, good spots versus bad spots, economy, hunting/gun laws and the such. I presently live in Texas, and and currently surrounded by wildfires! Any info, good or bad is appreciated.

Weather will be much wetter. The west side of the state has more to offer than the east. I don't live there but have been through many times. I am sure others will chime in. I took this picture last time I was there.

I'm a Texan but western Oregon (especially coastal north) is gorgeous. East Oregon, not so much.

I live in Cali. I suggest moving to Oregon. Cali sucks, OR is awesome. Better climate, better people, better outdoors. A few friends of mine moved there <----- good choice

I'm on the dry side in a town at the base of a ski area. Here in the High Desert of Central Oregon there's great fishing, hunting, skiiing, snowmobiling, hiking, climbing and mountain biking. Right out the front door there's literally thousands of miles of dirt roads and trails in every direction. The view of the snow capped peaks to the west is awesome...the only draw-back is there's not alot of work here.

To live in Oregon west of the Cascades mean you gotta like rain and lots of it. Unemployment is higher in Oregon than Texas. In fact, Oregon has suffered one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation through the recession.

If you consider the Government's U-6 rating, which measures not only the unemployed but also the underemployed, Oregon ranks 4th worst, with only Nevada, California and Michigan having higher U-6 ranks.

It is beautiful though. But beauty doesn't put food on the table. Unless you're looking to hook. ;)

The Pacific Northwest is the most beautiful part of the country, hands down. Move up here by any means necessary! :D

OP go for it. Oregon is awesome. Beautiful climate weather/season changes, outstanding number of outdoor activities, cheaper cost of living plus there are no sales tax, I didn't do any hunting, but Oregon's gun laws were awesome to me, etc. I lived in Portland/Beaverton area, but took road trips all over Oregon. All in all I was pretty sad moving away from Oregon.
