Should I move to Oregon?

Move to HAWAII.

We win.

(actually don't. Too many tourists. But Hawaii takes the cake.)

 

I've been going back and forth for the past week, I'm officially moving up on 9/22.

 

OP go for it. Oregon is awesome. Beautiful climate weather/season changes, outstanding number of outdoor activities, cheaper cost of living plus there are no sales tax, I didn't do any hunting, but Oregon's gun laws were awesome to me, etc. I lived in Portland/Beaverton area, but took road trips all over Oregon. All in all I was pretty sad moving away from Oregon.

 

Come up to the PacNW.



Heat and sunshine year round just doesn't do it for me.



Not to mention I actually like greenery and trees. I hate how everything in most of California is brown and dead 10 months out of the year...

 

Oh, and it's expensive as fuck in California! Screw that.

 

In Central Oregon, the high desert. Dryer than the valley, surrounded by the Cascades, cold winters, beautiful summers. Great hunting, fishing, wheeling, skiing, hiking, mountain biking.
Only problem is we're surrounded by fires right now. Its usually an annual event.
Overall anywhere in western or central Oregon is beautiful. Eastern part of the state, not so much.

Astoria is probably one of the nicest towns I have ever been to... reminds me of Port Townsend in Washington State. Incredible beauty on the coast shores.

 

If you don't mind the rain then move to oregon. I live in Pacific City (small beach town look it up) part time and Eugene the other half. Gun laws are pretty relaxed and easy to get a concealed weapons permit that allows you to carry in a variety of states. If you like the hunting, fishing, wheeling, snowboarding, surfing etc then move to oregon. It is a great state to raise a family but at the same time has many opportunities for careers.

 

My wife and I have considered a transfer to Seattle to get up into the area. Not exactly Oregon, but more Oregon than central Texas.

 

Native of Astoria, oregon here. If you love the rain and the scenery, move to the NW coast. If you like nicer weather and things to do, move to the west side of Portland. Eastern oregon is only good for hunting

 

I love that part of the country but I won't leave Texas unless we get annexed by Mexico. Not counting on that to happen anytime soon. But I sure wouldn't mind a place up there to escape the summer heat in Texas.

Yeah, if I make the move, it's because I got hired on with Life Flight out of Eugene. So, how much rain are we talking here? Ive lived in Louisiana and, yeah, we had rain, just humidity too. I'm digging the outdoor part, love mountain biking, hiking and climbing and all, so there is definately a sell there. Just was curious about weather and all. Thanks for all of the replys!

 

I moved from Orange County to Portland. I prefer it up here rather then down there. Any time of the year

 

As a Murse or a Medic? Lifeflight is also in Hillsboro and Aurora.

And it depends on the year. This year we didn't warm up/stop raining till the end of June. You get use to it

 

Nurse. I've been flying in central Texas going on 4 years and looking for change of pace, and weather! Not bad, I love Texas and all, it's just too damn hot here.

 

Inland doesn't get the same amount of rain as the coast does. You portland guys whine too much All the rain usually drops on the west side of the Coast Range, leaving the valley somewhat dryer. Not saying it doesn't still rain alot, but its far less than the coast. Last two times I went back home to Astoria, it rained 90% of the time I was there. Portland was muchhhh nicer. Eugene weather is usually a bit warmer as well, but I never lived down there so I'm probably talking out my ass.

You really can't go wrong, Oregon is gorgeous if you like to travel and explore. Only thing that ultimately sucks is the income tax, but its kinda nice because its pretty much the only tax you have to deal with unless you own property.
