Yeah the main reason I'm up here is for school, so I'm just starting out in life. I can see how it'd be difficult if you already had an established job and everything.

    I love VooDoo donuts! :D

The bacon maple bar and the Ol' Dirty Bastard are my favorites. :D

Do I need that permit to access any off-road areas in Oregon?

    back to bone stock.
i just got back from portland. my wife went before, and wanted me to check it out. she wants to move there. when she says stuff like, "honey, you can hunt more here"..she is getting serious.

i'll get here thru nursing school and revisit the option later. i want to take here there in one of your deep cold, dreary, rainy winters, and see if she still thinks it is great.

people are nice, food is great..people are healthy. i do like it.

I would call a Portland winter "mild". Minneapolis has "cold" winters...

Minneapolis has "Brutally cold" winters. I would never want to live there.

    9 months of drizzle.

The Louisiana rain you experienced is very different than the rain you will experience in the NW. We actually get less total annual rainfall than most other places in the country, but ours is spread lightly over many more days of the year.

But that's also why the NW is one of the greenest, prettiest places in the country.

I'm not sure where exactly you are in Texas (maybe I missed it), but Houston typically gets more rain per year on average than Portland. Eugene sees about the same about as Houston per year, except in Eugene it's more concentrated in the winter months (maybe 8 inches of rain in January, with only a trace of rain in July) while Houston's is more evenly distributed throughout the year (3 inches in January, 5 inches in July).

I live in the Columbia basin in Washington, I would suggest here over Oregon, but I'm biased.

Fuuuck the coast. It rains ALL the time and it's windy ALL the time. Central Oregon is awesome. We drove all the way through central Oregon on out way down to redding, ca a month ago, and it was awesome. I like the high desert atmosphere. I'm an outdoor guy too, and it seemed like an awesome place. Especially north central, just south of the gorge. My kinda place.

Move to Oregon, no sales tax and an overall great part of the country.

Yeah, they are all over the place in Portland.

You're not thinking of the urban campers and the hippies in SE.

I would agree. Eastern Washington has a harsher winter then Portland.

Whoever said cost of living is lower, needs to be more specific. There are parts of Oregon that rank in the highest cost of living in the entire country. We may not have sales tax but property tax and income tax will take whatever savings you thought you might be making.

A friend of mine just moved to the DFW area of Texas to buy a house for cheap and save some money on income tax. They seem to like it so far.

I'm all for people staying where they are. I like Oregon with fewer people. Californians are slowly realizing their state sucks and then they start coming North and turn our state into the Democratic political hell hole that it is.

Eastern Washington has harsher winters than the majority of the US. We have had close to 100 inches of snow 3 out of the last 4 years. It used to be about 50 inches. I am getting tired of it.

Im only 17 but ive been to about half of the states and been to europe and Oregon is hands down the prettiest area ive seen. I would die to live there (coast) i mean youve got mountians and ocean right next to each other. I lived in Texas for 4 years, hated every minute of it.
