Been shopping around for a Tacoma for a while (first truck, would be daily driver, light weekend warrior stuff). Found a 2014 PreRunner Certified at a Toyota Dealer:
    Double cab
    New tires
    62k miles
    12 mo toyota warranty
    clean carfax
It has the blower motor squeak

Had it checked out at my mechanic & he said aside from signs that the previous owners kept it messy (sunflower seeds everywhere), it was mechanically sound.

    Dealer's asking 19900.

    Thoughts?

If that's the type of truck you want then buy it if it checks out on Blue Book values etc...62,000 miles is nothing if maintained properly.

That's actually a good deal if you can live with a 2wd.

I think it's a pretty good deal. Not a 4x4, but you may not ever need 4x4. Depends on your lifestyle.

Ask yourself what 4x4 means to you. On trails, you can be fine with the right equipment and know how. Where I live on the other hand 2wd with a locker won't help me on a snowy icy road. I wouldn't be caught dead without 4wd...or maybe I would be caught dead without 4wd....like in a ditch
Other than that the price looks good and if you don't have a taco you need one.

Thanks for the replies so far. I've never needed 4WD; don't do off-roading, and it doesn't snow much where I live. My main hesitation is the 4-cyl potential lack of power when I ~may~ need it.
I've exchanged some messages with the dealer to see how much wiggle room on price there is, but they're standing firm so far. But I'm in no hurry...

Your hesitation is warranted. Seriously consider the V6 as the I4, though bulletproof, is a dog.

2WD and 4 banger. It's basically a Prius at this point. Move on.

If you don't want/need 4WD then go for it. Idk about the 4cyl on these new ones though. I have a '89 toyota pickup with the 22r-e 4cyl and that thing is a beast...so I'm sure the new ones are good too?

And don't ever put any trust in a Carfax report. Take it to an outside mechanic of your choice and pay them the 100.00 to inspect the shit out of it. Carfax is one of the most manipulated forms out there. And like they all said a 4 Banger and 2wd, move along my friend.

check edmunds.com for pricing... Essentially I see this at $15000, maybe 16000 max at dealer retail. 2wd and 4cyl will keep the value down. Original price was probably in the 23000 range, and 62000 miles is alot. Dealer wants a retail price without deduction for engine/tranny (4 speed) or excess mileage. By guess is that he got the truck in trade for 12000 with this mileage.
Negotiate hard at 15000 and not much more than a 1000 more-Doubt there is a long line of buyer for this setup of truck.
Good news is that the 4cyl has a synthetic oil requirement at 6 month/5k service intervals, if I'm not mistaken. So if there is a full maintenance record, it should be a solid one for a daily driver, no towing or heavy hauling with these prices. Test drive carefully, and visit dealer doing a COLD START and listen to the engine; make sure there's no engine noises to put you off. Test tranny for good shifiting. Also test A/C for super cold and no noises. Look for leaks around engine, seals, gaskets. Look at power steering rack for any stains.
ALSO if U buy, insist on a full tuneup, including new plugs and serpentine belt. CHeck color of p/s fluid, etc. If cloudy or basically not-clear colored insist on a flush as condition of sale. Probably needs new brake pads on the front by now too.
    Good Luck.

I've got 700+ credit rating, but I'm a cash buyer. Budgeted 20k for this one.

I'd pass on the 2014 with 62k miles considering the high mileage and prerunner status. If you can afford it, go with a 4x4. It is better from a functional and resale value standpoint.
