I'm in Ottawa, so lots of salt here too. Regardless of the year you buy, get Krown rust proofing done. It's guaranteed if done at the same time each year. Yes, they drill small holes, but that stuff creeps like crazy in every nook and cranny of the truck, thus keeping water (i.e. rust's oxygen supply) out. It's a very light oil with rust inhibitor, not that goo-like stuff that some companies offer. I will never not have Krown done on my truck.

Out of curiosity i went to toyota.ca and did a custom build for both a 2015 and a 2016 TRD limited truck( top line here in canada) 2015 was 44401.00 out the door(includes 2000 discount) 2016 was 51164.00. almost 7000.00 more.only difference outside of cosmetic body changes and powertrain was 2016 has more toys like smart key push button start back up sensors and blind spot monitoring. If i was buying and im not (very happy with my 2007 ) i would get a 2015.Right now our local dealer has a good selection of 2015 models.

2015 but like others say....shop fast! I was following 14 different DCSB Tacomas within 250 miles of my home and 2 a week were disappearing. I snatched a 15' 200 miles from home for approx $4,000 under MSRP.

But they are going fast...not to mention the other day I searched and saw of the few DCSB's left that the price had gone up now. Maybe dealers seeing same trend and realized they dont have to liquidate? No clue...just guessing. I live in WI. Love to hear of anyone else's trends...

I bought a 2015 back in July. At the time I was a little worried I'd soon have buyer's remorse and be envious of the new 2016's, but now that they're out, I'm glad I opted for the '15. I don't particularly care for the new design (front end specifically) and have absolutely loved my truck so far. The interior is probably a little more modern on the new ones if that's a factor for you, but the '15 has a decade worth of reliability, as well as after-market support, so I don't think you can go wrong with it.

I went 2015... 10 years of other guys working out bugs and troubleshooting the weaknesses. I fear the transmission more than the motor on the new ones. I plan to run 150k and 10 years. If the 3rd gen proves to be superior, my 2015 will historically have an awesome resale. I can switch in three or four years with minimal loss. If the 2016 is a dog, then I am locked in with a great truck! I am much more interested in dependability than shiny cool and new. I guess that's the difference between 27 and 37 years old.

I also went for the 2015 for the reasons mentioned above. Also I drove a 2007 FJ Cruiser that my son now drives. I new the 15' was built the way I like. The engine is great and will not let you down. I would wait a couple tears for the gen 3 to make sure it is as reliable as the 15'.

I am not a 2016 hater at all, I like them I just prefer to wait a couple years for the 2016 to be out. I use my vehicle out in the deserts of California and AZ often and just need to be sure.

I was going to wait for the 2016 but decided to go with the 2015 for the reasons already mentioned. I am very happy with my decision but I do wish that my 2015 had come with outside temperature.

Me also Chuck, although I put a Gentex mirror in mine I purchased from Bob Prim. Just over $200.00. He sells them to us Tacoma members at a good price. I installed mine in a couple hours and it works great.

Did the 3rd Gen really have that many changes to make a big stink about it? Its not like a totally new vehicle.

The 3.5L V6 has been around for +10 years; now with "simulated on-demand Atkinson cycle" aka more advance VVT.
Suspension is 99% carried over from the 2nd Gen to 3rd Gen.
Exterior Cabs & Doors looks the same

Drastic design change? But all the 3rd gen haters say its basically the same with a new grille!

Honestly i've driven both, the '16 interior is lightyears ahead of the 2015. Exterior it looks fresh, grille looks better in person. Engine is different, drives nice with ECT on.

I'm sure the new design will grow on me and they'll probably make minor tweaks here and there over time. I prefer my 2015 right now all things considered, but I bet I'd also be happy if I owned a 2016. It's still an awesome truck.

I sell these trucks. People say "do not buy the first gens of anything." That being said, they spent 8 years on this truck and put a lot of energy into the truck. It is my opinion that you do not need to wait, only for availability. This truck is a 90% redesign and it is bad ass. I personally drive a 2015 Tacoma and I regret not waiting for the 2016s. They have put this trucks interior, engine, and body through the ringer. Some highlights:

*The transmission has less moving parts, is 3 inches shorter, is lighter, and more durable.
    * The body has more steel welds around the a-pillars and roof. It is much stronger. the comparison isnt even close if you look at the density charts.
*The wheels and tires are specifically designed to enhance the experience based on what model you get. The offroad has kevlar wheels by Goodyear, they are only made for the Tacoma. The tires are lighter and create less road wobble, and are stronger on the sidewalls to create less possibility of puncture on rocks or sharp terrain.
*The Tacoma creates 12% less drag, due to it's body redesign, flap in between the bed and cab, vortex generators, etc.
*Noise dampening material has been added to most parts of the body. With the addition of an new Acoustic dampening windshield (standard on all models SR5 and up!!) the truck is quieter on the road!!
*The engine has more horsepower, torque, and better gas mileage. Whilst emitting less emissions.
*The interior has been widened 3 inches for more space for driver and passengers
*The seats are not like any other Toyota that has been built. Sport, limited, and offroad are all designed to suit that particular drivers style.
*Mid-size truck first available blind spot warning.
*A world first pedestrian collision safety hood and bumper has be put on the tacoma. If you were to hit a pedestrian the small bump in the lower part of the bumper is designed to "knock" the pedestrian onto the hood, and the hood is designed to collapse and "hug" to prevent from head and body injuries.
*Leader-in-its-class ground clearance at 29.4 inches and 32 inches in the off-road.... The Colorado has 17".....

Even down to the Torneau Cover- Toyota tested 100s of Covers and designed their own robot to rigorously open and close the fold backs. The average rotation....900 times and they broke. Toyota went the distance, this baby is tested for over 10,000 rotations. It is convenient, removable and doesnt take up your bed space with brackets.

The computer system has been borrowed from the other vehicles in the Toyota line, and the Touch screen is also the same.

What "bugs" need to be worked out? I would be shocked if they had issues.

They will be transfering the 3.5L atkinson cycle into their entire product line. Next vehicle to get it will be Sienna. Then Camry. They got it right the first time.

BTW this is my first post.

    So to conclude this thread...buy a 2015...or buy a 2016...we're all winners.

It is two measurements. approach and decline.
This is a youtube video of the measurements on a car, but you will get the idea. They do this with laser measurements that are inputed into the computer it is not computer simulated.
