Should I regear with 33 inch tires and a 6 inch lift kit?

I have a 2013 TRD-OffRoad V6 4X4 double cab. Currently, it has a 6 inch fabtech lift kit and 305/55R20 tires. I am curious if I should regear with this configuration? It has the 6-speed manual transmission. Does this make a difference? I go off-road once in a while and tow around 2,000 lbs during the summer 4 or 5 times each year. It may just be in my head but I feel like it’s harder to drive than it should be and has less power than it should have.. If I’m going up even a slight hill pulling 2k lbs @ around 70mph I have to drop to around 50 mph to make it up the hill. Is that normal?.. Any advice? Thx!

re gear will help but your RPMs will be higher on the high way after

hope you are not trying to do this in 6th gear

I can stay in 6th if it’s flat or going downhill. Going uphill I drop to 5th or sometimes 4th.

never tow in top gear, too much lugging

5th should be your high way gear and drop to 4th on hills

To answer your question. I think you should regear. 33" tires are not what the factory gear ratio and transmission are setup for. There is a calculator for gear to tire size

Thanks for the link! It looks like I will be going from 3.73 to ~4.06.

That's funny. If his RPM's are appropriate for the throttle he's giving it in 6th gear, why would it matter? Stay in the correct gear & avoid lugging would be much better advice.

OP, I was running E rated 285/75/16's which are 32.8" on the stock 3.73's and it didn't seem too bad. When I did my ARB's I installed 4.56's since I was moving to 35's, and highway speed was pretty high RPM's. Even with 35's now it's still a little higher than I'd like. The 4.30's might be another good option to look at if you think you may move up in tire size at all. I wish they'd have had the 4.30's when I re-geared.

6inch lift sitting on bilstein coilovers. Lexus is300 studs in front to keep stock wheels, general grabber red letters, nfab front bumper.
I’m on stock gearing turning 35s with a 6 inch lift kit and I also have a side x side I tow on a 6x10 trailer. Only difference is mine is an automatic.
