    You are running factory 4.56's:rolleyes: Try swapping out your 4.56's for 3.73's (1st gens don't even have 3.73's from the factory) and see what a difference 30's are compared to 33's. haha

    I should probably rephrase my statement... Even on 3.73's I had plenty of go. Had no issue accelerating up steep grades even at high speeds, where as the 1st gens seems to have issues maintaining speed up steep grades, Monte and Mark:coughcough: Trying to maintain 75 mph in a fuel efficient manner was another story though. Tranny didn't like to stay in overdrive because it took so much throttle to maintain speed. Went to 4.88's though and everything is far better than before! Crawls a little better offroad too. Not a major difference but it is nice.

    uuhh huh, and how do those 4.88s effect your jumping? Does it improve your mid travel set up as well?

    It actually made my "mid travel" setup perform worse because I can get up to speed so much quicker. I had to shift into 4Hi when jumping because I was redlining top gear in 4Lo...

    For the most part I want to order them now and get'em installed! But if I can save the $ and not regear then that would be best. I'm gonna wait until I get the tires on so I can see what kind of a difference, if any, it makes on the overall drive. Although "upgrades" are always hard to say NO to. I'll resist and only do it if needed. Then again who knows, it's always fun to put new stuff on our trucks!

    IMO, you are on the right track on all points. 255/85s will definitely be felt coming from 31s.

    I think you overlooked or minimized the the impact this has when the truck has an auto. What you are saying might be true for a 5-speed.

    This ^^^ is 100% spot on.

    It is more than simply the weight of the tire. Its all about the ratios man.

    I was exactly where you are not that long ago. Regearing to 4.88s with Nitros is definitely the sweet spot on the highway. 5.13s (if anyone made them for our trucks) would be ideal for 33s for wheeling IMO. The 4.88s are still just a bit tall for offroad if you like to go slow and downhill.

    Might just be my truck but thats still pretty bad

    When i had my 285's i had to drop to 3rd all the time on the big hills we have around here. I guess if you live in an area that was mostly flat, you might not feel it as much

    fuck you guys are a buncha babies. i cant make it up hills going over 60-65 unless im at 80 to 85 at the bottom, and i don't bitch. i just laugh!

    the climb to bfe in moab i was stuck at like 60 or something and i wanted to go faster, so i burried my foot in the floor more, hit the OD button off, hit the ect power button, turned off the ac...i hit everything i could find and i didnt go a hair faster. aleks just laughed hysterically at me lol

    Obviously it didn't correct the speedo/odo completely but compared to how far off it was after regearing, its fine. What was it? My odo read 135 and yours was like 128?

    so what would correct the speedo completely?

    I figured 488's should be plenty to get me close to stock power? I have the auto trans so its a power drainer in itself. Ive already added the lift, once bigger tires (33x10 16rim) are on they will drop my power. The 488's I figure would be enough to get me close to riding as it did STOCK. Should I go higher? 513? 529? my Offroading is mainly trails, i dont like the slop so no mud or water for that matter. I'd say my truck will spend about 75% on road as my DD, 15% trailing, and 10% towing a car hauler w/ a car on it. Every tuesdays I tow a car about 15 miles. The O/D gives the extra boost when towing on tuesdays, Its not terribly bad. I can tell it does take more work from the engine but no issues.

    with the bigger tires I figured im gonna deal with about a 3-5 mph difference at 65mph. Its a bigger tire and covers more ground, yet at the same time its gonna take more power to turn 3" taller tires. Let me know if you think 488's will fix my soon to be "power issue". One thing I dont want to do, is install the 488s and then find out its not enough.

    With my 33's, my speedometer is off by 10%, which makes sense going from 30's(ish) to 33's. I'll probably re-gear from 4.10 to 4.56, which will gain back the 10%.
    4.88's will be fine for you, I wouldn't go higher if you have a lot of highway driving, or you'll be lacking at the top end

    4.88s are pretty sweet for the highway but I don't tow. There are no 513s for the Toyota 8". The next size up is 529s which will be too high for the highway but would give plenty of power for towing and allow you to go slow on the trails.

    To correct the speedo/odo after regrearing, I replaced the speed sensor gear at the end of the t-case. Its a little plastic gear you can get from the dealer. Mine was a 31 tooth stock. Went to a 33 tooth and it got everything close. I think a 34 tooth would have been perfect but they don't make one. 33t is the largest.

    Its called a GEAR SUB-ASSY and the part number is 33403-39415. I paid $26.

    hahaha yeah.... I used to spend a lot of time on ttora, and it was extremely helpful for my 4x4 conversion, but lately I just spend time on Pirate and Tdubz.... ttora has become very boring. :eek:
