Should I run AMS Dominator 10-w30 racing oil in my stock Tacoma?

    I fly for a living and I remember years ago, some dude was telling me to put 100ll in my cars/motorcycles to do that. Never did it, but there was definitely folks coming in to buy it for their tractors and mowers.

    The additives used are generally are using the same additives that have been in oils since the 1940's at the levels that were common before the late 1990's and API service category SL.

    The EPA pressured the vehicle manufactures to make converters last longer, the manufactures pressured the oil industry to reduce the additives that were detrimental to converter life.

    The additives, commonly called ZDDP, were exceptionally good at protecting flat tappet camshafts from wear, by the late 1990's almost all engines were equipped with roller rockers for higher efficiency, the additives were kept in the oil for backwards compatibility with older engines.

    It was the opposite here in the winter months with gm cars that had diesels in them. You'd run a gallon or so gasoline with a full tank of diesel so the fuel oil wouldn't gel.
