So I am toying with the idea of putting my Taco up for sale. Wondering what you people think...
I bought it new in August 2004, 2004 TRD SR5 double cab, 106K miles, frame replacement done by my dealer (Valenti Toyota) I had the waterpump and timing belt done at that time. 6 months ago I did Bilstein 5100's, Wheelers 3 pack Progressive leafs, OME 881's, Toyota lower ball joints and outer tie rods, EBC slotted rotors, pads and new calipers, 285/75/16 Fierce Attitude M/T on Method 16 x 8 Double Standard rims, steering rack bushings. Plugs, wires and coil paks. Truck has always been reliable and kept up, no rust except on the original bumpers.
In theory I would replace it with a newer Tacoma....but why? I don't really want a payment. Talk me out of it :facepalm:taco lifted.jpg lifted taco.jpg

Whats the reason for wanting a newer gen tacoma?

Just to update and have a newer vehicle...but that's part of my whole questioning. My truck is reliable and nice just wondering if I should sell it now while it's still worth something or run it for as long as reasonable?

Don't do it. Keep your 1st Gen.

If you have to ask "why upgrade?" (Which going to a 3rd gen is a downgrade IMO) You probably shouldn't upgrade. If I had a 1st gen DC 4x4 id never let it go.

As much as I love my 2nd gen I'd take a 1st gen over it any day. Couldn't find any good ones for sale when I was looking for a new vehicle back in 2012.

I would keep it, I sold mine a while back an bought an 08 and I love it, but now I am in the market looking for a first gen because I miss mine so much. Just keep up with the maintenance an it will run for ever.

I also say keep it. It's an awesome truck, and being rust free with a new frame, it'll be worth something for quite some time.

That being said, if you do decide to sell, that truck is worth some $$$!

I'm kind of in the same boat as you in wanting something newer. But not until I can afford a pretty large down payment first.

If that was my truck I'd probably start at asking $14,500 and see who bites. That's just for my area though.

KEEP IT! First gens are only becoming more and more rare and the average going rate for one is still rising. Plus it's barely halfway through its life (106,xxx)!!

I think the new tacos are WAY over glorified. you will literally feel the exact same as you do right now. but youll be paying an arm and a leg each month.

I am in Connecticut, so a rust free, low mileage Tacoma could possibly bring $14500?...that'd be a god down payment on a '12 or '13...hmmm, why are we 1st Gen owners not thrilled by the 2nd Gens?

cause youre not buying a traditional toyota pickup or upgraded pickup (first gen tacoma). youre buying the successor to the T-100.

Keep it and just get another one. If you sell it you will 100% regret it but you'll also always regret never having a newer Tacoma.

What features on the new truck (that one would want) that you cant add to yours?

The later year 1st gens are worth more than most 2nd gens and theres a reason for that.

It's not replaceable (someone needs to make a compact truck again.)

Keep it! Have it professionally detailed and that will make it feel new again. For $100 or so. I just did that with mine and it looks
Like new. If your truck has no rust and it's reliable you should hold on to it.
