Sounds to me like you just got to do it. Trade in the old, tired taco and get yourself a brand new, shiny 4WD Black TRDOR!

Get the job first then get the newer truck but at 50k a year your limited to a $300 month car payment anymore will be voluntary economic slavery unwise to fall into that trap at such a young age.

It depends. Right out of college I bought a new ford explorer, but was working for an engineering firm where I was driving a LOT of miles doing consulting work and the mileage paid for my gas and car payment. Keep in mind there are additional expenses like full coverage insurance (yuck) and finance costs. While it is a good time to buy a 19 right now, it would probably be smartest to wait until you are a little bit more established and know you have good job security and some money saved in an emergency fund. Those car payments should be going into your retirement accounts, the earlier you start the better ;)

Then again there is always YOLO soooo...

these trucks are cool, but they are expensive for what you get. If you can swing the payment have at it! I’d recommend getting the best truck you can afford so you won’t have any regrets later down the road. If yours is paid off I’d keep her and stack up some money for a year then see what you want to do. 100% my opinion, good luck on you search!! Oh yeah, and no Boyfriends... they will just want to drive your truck.

Keep it, buy a lift, tires and rims. I was in the same situation three years ago, kept it, spent some money on it, and now I couldn't be happier, and I still don't have gear hunting issues.

When I was making 50k I was only bringing home 1400 every two weeks after taxes 401k and insurance (single no kids and living in ca) so basically 2800 a month. Not sure how your comission structure works but a brand new taco is about 600ish depending on down payment. If you can afford and save go for it!

I will offer advice since you asked for it. In my opinion, (just an opinion), you will be way better off to avoid the debt trap and put some money in your existing truck if required. My dad recently asked me the same question. In the end, we put a brand new motor in his for a fraction of the debt of a new one and he essentially has a new truck that looks great and will go another couple hundred k. (Not a taco but you get the point.) Having dug out of the early career debt hole, I wouldn't wish that on anybody just starting out a career.

You truck looks awesome! I'd keep it if I were you.

I don't know if you have any student loans, but I had over 30k and I stupidly bought a Ram 1500 and sold my F150 (that was paid off) that I still miss to this day just because I got a good 75k job coming out of college and it was my first time really making money. It was a big lesson learned because I wish I was saving up instead of getting rid of a perfectly fine truck. Now I drive a Taco and spend my money irresponsibly on it!

Ask yourself these very simple questions.

Are you an AmeriCAN afford a sweet new truck?
    Or
Are you an AmeriCAN'T afford something they really want?
    ;)

Drive it till it drops, by then you'll buy a new one in 2030. Keeping it on the road will be cheaper than new payments.

    We don't judge. :D

Anyway, I'd keep what you have if it is in good shape (check the frame). You don't need to go into debt right out of school. Start saving some money. Get situated in your new job and see how things go for a year before making any rash decisions.

I was in the same situation as you out of college. Worst decision I ever made looking back was buying a newish vehicle because I was on the "come up." The first few years out of college are crucial in setting you up for success over the next 10 years - start building your savings and pay off any debt you have. Honestly, my 17' Tacoma is barely different than your '06 all things considered. If anything wait a year or two until the Bronco and new Tacoma come out. You will be glad you did.

I had a 2005 that I’d still be driving if I hadn’t totaled it. Great truck.

I was in your position I bought my 2017 OR back in March after graduating at 22, the most important part is a truck payment isn't indicative of your ability to afford the vehicle, you want to be able to live comfortably while paying the truck off and still manage to save money. If your student loans are taken care of and you have a solid emergency fund and fully fund your 401k and save some money each paycheck on top then go for it. Look for good deals on lending as well.
