Drive it into the ground while putting aside $500 a month. In 4 years when it falls apart buy a lease return 2019 with low miles cash and throw a lift and wheels and tires on it cash.

Edit: and take your ugly boyfriend out for a fancy celebration dinner, cash!

My advice is to ignore the cravings for the new truck and within a couple weeks you will have forgotten about it and still enjoying your old truck and the extra money you have every month.

    Edit: that’s what I do.

I'd give it one year. Save a little. Make sure you like the job. Make sure the job likes you. Then I'd buy a new one.

I wouldn’t be thinking about getting rid of the used Tacoma I know, for a different used Tacoma I don’t know.
The residual values of Tacoma’s make buying a new one a better deal.

but if I was a 22yo-ish girl, I would probably be spending my money on “cosmetic upgrades” that would fetch me a guy that would pay for a Tacoma for me :notsure:

I’d wait, but I’ve never wanted a vehicle as bad as you sound like you want a third gen.

We don’t know what your expenses look like, so we don’t know how much take home you’ll have, or how much money in the bank you’ve got, or what you plan to budget for basic needs, for home ownership, for children someday, etc. Still, waiting a year, saving, and then reassessing can’t hurt....

Either way, you’re already too good for Brofessor!

Enjoy whatever Taco you end up with, and congrats on your higher ed accomplishments.

Buy it! Maybe rent one for a few days and see how you like it, a few hundred bucks isint a big commitment.

Maybe just wait till a few months into your job to get secure, but between selling or trading your 06 taco and adding some money saved up, you could probably have a fairly low finance on a used one. That’s giving your credit and such the benefit of the doubt. So yeah I’d say do it, and be smart about going about it.
Also there’s some obvious differences between the 17 and 18 tacos, but if you have a mind to look at the 18s I would consider the 19s instead if you plan on staying stock. Maybe look at the 17s if you plan on doing a off road build.

Do it now if you're going to. You can get a great deal on a 2019 right now. And then do the same thing you did with your old one, drive it to at least 150k miles.

Edit: make sure you check out the manual transmission too

    What's wrong with an 06?

Some clazzio seat covers with heated seats, and a new Android auto or Apple carplay head unit, and your truck will have all the useful features of the 2020, without the debt.

I like my 06. Would never sell it.

Finance the new one zero down and drive into a brick wall at 15mph to pop airbags. Follow truck through salvage auctions and buy back. Get steel bumper from some cool IG company. Boom! Best of both worlds

Biggest mistake I ever made. I had a 08 I bought new, put 200k miles on it, got the bug and bought a 2018, lifted, tires, accessories, OVTune, all kinds of mess, and H.A.T.E.D it.....I don't care who you are, the OV tune helped a little w power distribution, but all in all, these trucks have a computer that constantly relearns itself, causing the transmission to fight finding gears constantly. And after fighting it for a year, I finally sold it for a 4runner. Going to pay this one off in 2 years, and be on the hunt for a premium 2nd gen. I would suggest seeing if there is a car rental place locally, or ask the dealership for an extended test drive in a demo so you know exactly what this truck isn't about.
Stick w that 06, they broke the mold when they built that truck.

It’s just broken in. Do the required maintenance and keep it.

I had an 07’ with every intention of driving it till it died, also really liked the 3rd Gens but nothing wrong with the one I had. Then I was in an accident and the 07’ was written off and I got into a new 2018’. It’s an awesome truck but I miss the 07 and the 07 was also paid for which was nice.

I’d keep the one you have and put the money away every week that you’d be spending on the payment and when it comes time to get into a new one. You’ll be that much closer to getting into it without a loan.

Do you want 4x4 for going off-road more?
If your always on pavement then 2wd is great but if the off-road bug has hit you then I can see why you want 4x4.

Nailed it here. Determine what your payments would be and start saving that every month. If you still feel comfortable with that payment, then pull the trigger in a year or so and payment will be even lower.

I started with an 07 Tacoma, loved it, traded up to a 2016, V6 auto access cab TRD sport, (need the long bed) two weeks ago, traded up to a 2019 V6 access cab TRD sport Manuel shift, loving it, no regrets.
    follow your heart.
