I do what I can, even if it is not much. I hate junk email as was as junk letters. I do not mind the CC companies watching for large purchases made in the Czech republic, but not trying to sell me crap based on how/what/when I buy things.

Maybe this year I move to remote Montana and start writing a manifesto ...

Thank you! I know in half a year when I start college, I'll be commuting way more and putting 3x the miles, maybe more on the vehicle(I'll also have to leave the job i currently have which gives me a company vehicle).

I did a lot of modding on mine right away, though it was the stereo install mostly and I had about 90% of the equipment already from my old rig. The other stuff I did was cheap and made sense such as the Weathertechs and step bars..ok I know it's only a 2WD, but at the time I was driving my father in law around a lot and it made his life easier to get in and out.

That said in my teens and 20s I drove many hoopties and a couple of decent cars, common thread being $1000 or less and I paid cash. We had lean years when we bought our house at first due to needing to make so many repairs and upgrades (need not want) but I had a paid for vehicle and so did she, so we lived very frugally for a few years.

I won't say it didn't suck having to wait but I'm much better off for having done so. My sister (who I mentioned before) didn't wait and has gotten herself in trouble time after time.

First time I paid over $1000 for a vehicle I was 28..and that's after getting a personal injury settlement, I paid cash and bought a 4 yr old vehicle with low miles which wasn't an extravagant machine. In my early to late 20s I wasted so much on bar/nightclub living that I still cringe to think back, but I never got in trouble with credit either directly or indirectly due to said wastefulness at least.

My sister got in trouble before she was 21 as I mentioned before. She didn't really learn. Still went out and bought clothes all the time ,dinners, and while I'm sure no parent wants to do it sometimes you have to say "no we can't afford that" to your children.

We were both house shopping at the same time. My dad drilled into me "don't look at the number on your approval. Play with a mortgage calculator and rates, figure out what you can pay every month PLUS do repairs (known or surprise) PLUS pay utilities, taxes and such PLUS live as in fix your vehicle, buy clothes, and all that. The bank doesn't care about you..that's what you have to do!"

I listened, she didn't. I'll let you guess who lost their house in about 10 yrs time to foreclosure and who has a damn near paid off house today.

In my case I'll confess I was a bar drinker as I mentioned above. Let's just say that now pays for my house.

The bank cares about their investment, not you. Never forget that about mortgages.

If you can still pay your bills, then go to the bar. It is the people who cannot tell "when to stop" (no, not blood alcohol level, but outflow) who get in trouble.

Exactly, nor with any tangible asset they can take..or even failing that, charge you interest to the hilt.

I was paying my bills but that was when I lived at home and had few real costs. The BAC was an issue eventually, both the number and frequency haha
