Let him mud bog and take it to river with his friends. Let him open it up and have fun with it. He can get a good decade out of it. Then pass it down to his kids.

Audi is a premium brand and unfortunately many young women today place value in that sort of thing, it also just so happens that a S5 is a fantastic car.

Yeah let the kid drive it. It’s better than it sitting dormant. Although at 22 he’s not quite a kid but you’ll save him some bucks!

If you're buying that thing on credit...probably more than $700/mo.

This is a $700/mo Audi; looks like every other sedan on the road to me.

You’re an adult, make a decision. Who comes to a forum to ask for parenting advice? Classic.

    Fixed for you, Adult.

    ————————————————————

Anyway, I would allow him to drive it, but pay you a rental fee for it. He’s already saving money by returning the Audi. Let him pay die the insurance as you suggested, take care of any maintenance issues and have him pay a couple hundred bucks to you that you can either keep or regift to him for his next ride. Interested to hear about your decision.

Let him have it but under is own insurance cause you are the one who is gonna pay the higher premium if he is in an accident ( he is under 25 ) for at least 7 years before they come down again. Good luck at whatever you decide.

That's not easy to do. Insurance companies require that you have an insurable interest in the vehicle, which in most cases means having it titled and registered to you. Exceptions are possible in cases where someone uses the vehicle regularly but is registered to a parent or other family member (a kid away at college with a family car for example), but are not common.

As to the OP's original question, no doubt this is a good time to sell it if that's what you want to do. If I could predict what the market was going to do when, I'd probably have a staff member writing this post :) If you want to keep it then definitely having it used at least a bit each week is better than letting it sit for 6 months. The bad part about selling is that more than likely, you will be buying into the same market that paid you top dollar for your current truck when you get back in 6 months.

Without a doubt, I would contact Dr. Phil and ask him what to do.
If he couldn't help me I would be all over the chicks on "The View" and ask them
Last resort would be a compact truck forum
But, that is just me ;-)

Don't understand your comment about 1 hit in the rear and it's totaled. It's not just the Taco, it's any modern vehicle. Crumple zones are designed to absorb force so it's not transferred to the vehicle occupants, so they need to give. Lots of sheet metal and frame damage but the passenger cage stays in tact. I could be wrong but I don't think that's a bad thing. If the truck is totaled and I walk away, then as far as I'm concerned Toyota did a good job. You are definitely right about the rodents on a vehicle sitting in a garage for months.

I go with let him buy t from you at a reasonable (for him) cost. Then it will stay in the family and he'll appreciate it more because he has "skin in the game". After 6 months, you should be able to get something new or slightly used for a reasonable amount. Heck, maybe the new Tundra will be a logical choice by then. Either way, tell him to dump the Audi before periodic maintenance is due.

I wasn't saying it was bad in anyway I was just saying that there's a risk of it losing its value

Don’t let your insurance lapse for more than 6 months, your rates may go up when you resume coverage. Happened to my wife when she drove my brother’s jeep for 8 months without her own coverage.

If you let your son drive it make him pay you the $700 per month, then give it back to him if he doesn’t fuck it up. It covers your costs for damage or gives him a down payment on his next ride.

To the OP so what have you decided to do. One thing for sure your son sounds like a responsible young man. He has a good job and lives on his own which is something you do not see much in this generation.
