    Hi,
First time writing in here, lots of viewing. My issue, I just bought a 2006 Tacoma trd or v6 6 speed with 64,000 miles. Sounds good so far. I just had to replace clutch to bearing and install the urd sleeve. Got it back from shop, bummed but happy to have it back and working. Then I hear a whine...alterantor is going out. I am curious to what you all would do, I've owned 4 tacomas, and all were easy and mechanically sound, this is the first time I've ever had to put this much money in my truck. Thanks.

Sounds like age and wear and tear. fix it and drive it. I bought a Cobra Mustang a few years ago and had to invest money in it to address age related issues, car is over 10 years old. I love the car puts a smile on my face when I drive it in the summer, glad I invested the money. Fix your problems they aren't horrible. good luck

an alternator isnt hard to change.. Go spend the $ and buy a new one and put it in yourself. I did mine in my old sunfire back when I had absolutely Zero automotive experience. Didnt take me long at all.

Two issues you listed cost almost 2K ??? That's pretty steep! The URD kit is like $250 IIR and an alternator is about the same.
    Even w/ labor that's a lot.
I'd suggest this: you've got "two strikes" right now, if you don't have a third in the next 3 months keep it. If you have another costly issue then jump ship.

    Best advice I can offer.

And best of luck to you with your decision.

I just spent 2k and climbing lifting mine. 2k isn't that bad honestly. I know it is a lot of money and no I am not rich. But internally that engine should be gtg all the other stuff is just added protection....

Just curious for your alt to fail at 66k what is running off it? If you have a lot of stuff running it, (subs and amp, inverter, cb, lights, etc etc) then you should have expected it. If not Then look at it this way. It is right there assuming you have a v6. pay the 250ish to replace and get a lifetime warranty on it and call it done. One less thing to have to pay for later. If you can't swing the 250 now then have it rebuilt. And save up.

Also be glad you don't a sc mustang a newer one. My alt went out at 54k on it 450.00 to replace from autozone. That was the cheapest. The dealer wanted 7+

You have already fixed the major issue with the clutch. The alternator is just another item such as battery, tires,.etc..that has a limited life which unfortunately ended prematurely at only 60K miles. If the PO ran accessory items like alarm, stereo/amp, winch etc...it would draw more current/load and will cause the charging system to be replaced sooner. More than likely you are not on the stock battery but I would get both battery and alternator tested at the auto parts store. You are overreacting in contemplating selling the truck over a bad alternator. While I have you on a buying spree, let me know if you are interested in a set of BBS 18"wheels/ 275/65/18 tires.Welcome to TW !

Are you sure the alternator is going out? Sounds like it could just be a bearing on the pulley.

Could just end up being replacing the pulley assembly or only the bearing itself. I'd look into that a little more closely.

It depends. Can you get all your money back? If so than sell and buy another one as it sounds like this truck has been used hard. Alternators going out at 64000 miles is not normal and needing bearing clutch work is also a big question mark at that mileage. Sounds like it has been in some deep water.
If you cannot get your money back by selling it including costs of repairs keep it for now as you have already invested more into it than it is worth.
