Thinking of selling but cannot decide to sell or get a good paint job. Any ideas of how much I should ask if I do sell? Truck has 136k and tires might have 500 miles on them. Any input welcomeimage1.jpg image2.jpg image3.jpg

    Too few to list.
Keep it and leave as is or just vinyl wrap the top if it bothers you that much. Depending on 4x4 or not, auto or stick, I've seen pre-runners with around the same mileage and condition in my area anywhere from $6k to $9k. I picked up a couple of 4x4 manual in the past couple of years for around $13k(2003 TRD OR 87K miles)-$15k (2004 TRD OR 56K miles).

Looks like a good truck to me. I'd keep it and paint it. If you don't have any payments i'd say spruce it up and sell it later after you've saved enough money to buy a new one.

Sorry, I guess i should have included a little more info. Its automatic with 4x4 with the TRD off road package (just took the decals off because of fading). Interior is average with a few cigarette burns.

Keep it. If you're only at the cheap paint jobs (under $1k), I suggest you skip it as it will fade sooner than later.

Yea thats been the deciding factor, I got a quote to get it repainted the same color of 3500 bucks and not trying to spend that much. Then I know macco does those cheap paint jobs because I dont want a bad job that will not last.

Think of resale. If I was to pick up a used vehicle, I would prefer one that has faded paint rather than one that has been painted. I'm more leary of a newly painted vehicle because it hides damages and other things. I'd rather know those up front. Besides, cheap paint job does bad prep and imperfections underneath shows up. It's the roof, hardly noticeable. It's also looks like just clear coat. How about wet sand then clear coat?

Keep it. I regret selling mine even though I like my 2015 TRD. Mine had 290k miles when I sold and ran perfectly. It never let me down. Yours is barely broke in. Totally worth a good paint job.

From the guy i took it to said he would have to repaint and clear coat it. The guy does great work from what people have told me but I was not looking at 3500. I have no problem with spending 2-2500 so I may just get a few quotes from other places. Just want to be able to not lose a ton of money if i decide to sell within of year.

New truck payments really SUCK! I traded my 03' with 200K on it and it had many more left to go. I would get a paint job if you must. Its a nice truck. They gave me $9800 dollars trade in, when I bought a 2010.

Just had my 01 DC 4x4 painted on the hood and roof. It looked the same as yours. The rest of he truck was polished out and now it looks brand new. I almost wish I would have left it alone. Now I am afraid to get it pinstriped on trails...

I would say...Depends. Once you hit 200k it's going to depreciate a lot, even if it is a TRD Tacoma. If you really want a newer truck it might be time to sell it to a private party and get the max that you'll probably get out of the truck without putting anymore money into it, i.e. paint job.

However, these trucks are known to go high mileage with little major maintenance. Me personally, I would keep it and drive it until it gets 300k+. That's what I plan to do with mine. I just had to bite the bullet and pay for the transmission to get rebuilt but that's the worst that's gone wrong in 5+ years of owning the truck. I wouldn't worry about the paint job just drive it. Like others said, truck payments suck so if it's paid for and it's running well just go with it and be happy that it's a Tacoma because they last.

If the frame is sanitary and it' a 3.4, she's a keeper at 136K. That's about break in for that motor.

Yeah since it is a black truck I would get some gloss black vinyl off ebay for $30-$50. Easy stuff to work with and especially for a roof

Keep it. That's a nice looking 1st gen. You have it built just how you want...do you really want to start a build all over AND have a truck payment??

That roof looks just like my truck (and a little of the same on the hood). I just bought mine less than 2 weeks ago. It's green and has 174k miles. I paid $8600 knowing it needed a timing belt. I've gotten quotes from four shops to fix the paint. One was $1800 and included painting the whole cab, so as to avoid trouble where old paint meets new. Two others came in at $1200 without painting the whole cab. The last was $750 from the guy who's known for doing it cheap and you set your expectations accordingly. I'm not sure what I'll do yet, probably nothing.

But in answer to your question: With so few miles? Definitely keep it if you love it. But I bet you could get $10-11k for it easily.

I'm on the keep it band wagon. That thing still has a lot of life left, looks to be in excellent shape as well.

Wow I wish my paint looked that good!!!

Then having 4 different colors on most vehicles I own I am not hung up on paint .

Yes I think it is time to get rid of your truck and buy a new one !!
