Yes. Absolutely. Without a doubt. If you're not doing this, then you're doing it wrong!

Is there an 87 retro grill out there? That'd be cool.

Here is pre-dipped and after. One thing to note is that I didn't use the gloss finish on mine, I just did dip and that's it. Sorry I don't have a picture head on but it's the best one I have.

At $100 or less, for a china pro grill, its actually the most affordable option out there...besides a can of plastidip

The paint is BBP - order a can of that and their adhesion promotor (needed so it sticks to chrome). Just follow the recommendations on the cans and it will turn out perfect. I believe I sanded the bezel with 1000 grit wet/dry to dull the chrome, then a couple coats of adhesion promoter, I think three coats of paint, then three coats of clear. I used Rustoleum automotive clearcoat spray since I already had some but you can buy clearcoat on BBP's site too. The mesh grill part is sprayed with black Rustoleum peel coat (basically the same as plastidip) 4-5 coats, and the emblem is sprayed with anthracite grey Plastidip 4-5 coats. All of it has held up fantastic for 2 years... no chips whatsoever.

    All-factory options at this point.
This is brilliant. The only thing I don't like 100% about the front end look on my '19 Sport, aside from the chrome grill border (bezel) is that the grill seems a bit oversized. What you did with the bezel matching is make the grill look the perfect size, to my eye.

I kinda like my original factory sport grille. Why? Because I now see so many pro grilles and other swap-outs around on Tacomas here in Western South Dakota that mine actually seems unique. But the black paint looks neat on the stock grille for sure. Something to ponder. I wonder if black paint will chip off with bug hits, rocks, etc.

Haha I know exactly what you mean. Now that I'm used to the way mine looks when I see other 3rd gen's driving around it looks even bigger. 2nd gen had the right size going on, IMO.

I have a TRD Pro Grille. I might switch it out again, the TRD Pro grille is starting to get old on me even though I've had the grille for less than 6 months LOL

Yes it probably will especially if you don't use adhesion promotor on the chrome. If you use plastidip instead of paint it's rubberized and won't chip. It also sticks to chrome without any special prep.

I have a fake pro grille. The best part about it is the fact it does stick out helping to hide the Bubba Gump under-bite from the black plastic bumper. Look at a profile pic and it's pretty clear.

I kept my stock grille and couldn't be happier. Here in socal, almost everyone has a fake pro grille. I just changed the bezel.

Bezel swap for me as well. Also the stock TRD grill is perfect for "behind the grill" driving lights.
