Should I trade in my 2WD '15 for a 4WD '15 or a 4WD '16?

Bought my 2015 Taco DCSB TRD OR 2WD about 6 months ago. It just rolled over 5K miles. Recently took a trip up to big bear and had some iffy situations on some iced roads, that just added to the regret of not getting a 4x from the start!

Anyways, I'll be wanting a DCSB TRD OR 4WD; only question is if I should get a 15 or up for the 16? Not too sure about the new engine/tranny. I'm enjoying the 4.0, getting about 17.5 mpg on average since I bought it (I have an app where I've been logging fuel consumption since day 1). Getting an extra 2.5 mpg sounds nice I guess, not much of a difference..

I plan on doing some light off roading, trips up to big bear (so some snow), trips down to baja, etc.

What do you guys recommend?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!??!?!??!?!!? I plan on test driving a 16 this weekend, already contacted the guy I bought my current truck from; I attached what he sent, kinda pricey at 40k. I might be able to talk him down a couple K though, he's the fleet manager...gave me the 15 taco for 3k under msrp when I bought it.

It depends what fits your needs but you would probably get a better deal on a new 2015 than you would on a 2016.

How much money are you losing on your current truck?

Finally someone who actually bought the wrong truck, instead of just wanting to be super internet cool.

Go 4x4. Get whatever you won't totally lose your ass on (unless you don't care). I wouldn't get a 2016, YMMV.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
I don't say this much but considering what you're doing IMO go for a new '16 4x4 and be done with it.

Not sure how much they'll give me for mine; they won't give appraisals over the phone even thought the truck is basically new... I imagine I'll prob get around 26K - 29K trade in (at least that's what I would negotiate for).

I would keep the 2wd and put better tires on.

haha, nah it's a serious contemplation; I plan on keeping this taco until it is a taco no more, so it needs to be the right one!

So I'm considering this, as well, but the dealer wanted me to lose about $3k from what I bought it for five months ago. Once I start really needing a 4X4, I'll re-visit this, but for now, my PreRunner gets me where I need to go.

To quote myself, I'm not mad about the $3k bath - totally understand the new vs used marketplace. It is what it is. I still love my truck!

What happens in scenarios like this, the buyer just eats the 2-3k in taxes he paid on the first and has to pay taxes again on the next truck?

I did this also got shafted on the trade in, but at least now when i get into my 4x4 dclb im not upset about paying for a 2wd dcsb i didnt want. They took advantage of me being a first time buyer and talked me out of it cause it was "too much truck for your credit score"

Yet another option; I probably won't do anything that requires 4x4 for a couple months, maybe I should stfu and wait like you? Prob is the longer I wait the less likely i'll find a 15 with super low miles (if I end up going 15 instead of 16)....

I bought mine for about $24.3k out the door last summer, and they offered me $21k. Mind you, that was before any negotiation - but that's where they're going to start out at. I still might do it - I'm out of town for work right now, and will likely visit the dealer when I get back.

Nah, who am I kidding - I'm already too in love with my truck. Maybe in a few years once the '16s get through the kinks I'll revisit this.

I thought I heard someone on here mention something about if you end up trading in a new vehicle shortly after buying it that there was some type of break on the tax? Might be off base, but that's how I interpreted it.

    Maybe someone here can clarify?

Do what you wanna do man. I love my truck and don't need 4X4 - that's why I'm waiting. However, if you're not feeling your truck and/or need 4X4, do it sooner rather than later. I'm not saying don't be patient and find the right truck for you still, but if you want a 4X4, do it up, brotherman.
