If I was deciding on whether or not to buy a vehicle , I would do a bit of research first myself .

As pointed out above , there are fixes for the frame bending issue , but it would be nice to know about it when deciding whether to purchase one or not .

Nelson18matt, well said. What I've been trying to get across here about no perfect vehicle out there, and hear opinions. If we play the google game, google toyota's issues. We all should know them owning a taco anyway. I love my front end brake pad clunk, dash rattle and mpg of a full size, etc! That is why I still have it. Otherwise the thing would have been sold years back. And I am in your boat..do I want payments again?

Larger rear diff. 34 spline axles vs 31. The interior. Down hill assist. Locker. Different gear ratio. Exhaust. Wheels and tires.

6.2 not available in standard F-150 only the Raptor and Harley Davidson Editions.

it just amazes me when people cry when they break their truck while offroading at high speeds getting all 4 wheels off the ground... anything will break after enough abuse...

like i said, it is ford's fault, because they used an shitty bump design and weakend the frame at a point that is going to see alot of abuse. but for those people that dont have bent frames yet... it's really not an issue.

the whole ford vs. toyota thing... whatever. the raptor is a dezert truck and rangers dominated the dez scence long before yota's got popular out there.

Raptor is too much truck for my needs. I like my Taco.

Usually when I have urges to upgrade, if I can just put it off for a few weeks I usually find a new irrational obsession. 'Course, sometimes I cave, that's why I have the Taco.

    Just an F-150....

Just look at the numbers: Compared with a standard F-150, the Raptor's track is 6.6 inches wider to accommodate the longer and stronger upper-and-lower control arms, tie-rods, and halfshafts unique to this vehicle. The Raptor uses special composite fenders flared out by eight inches (four on each side) to help cover this wider track and the specially designed, 35-inch BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A tires. In fact, the Raptor is so wide, it's required to run the federally mandated marker lights normally seen on dually trucks.

Wider... stronger suspension... taller tires... Yep; just an F150 and your just an average Internet Expert.

I had the opportunity to work on the tools that stamped the rear boxside panels for this truck. we stamp them at our facility. During pre-production I had to change the shape of the the top forward corners of both the right and left side panels because of an "interference issue" with the cab on aggressive off-road use. Later I heard [probably here] of the frame flex issue. Hmmmmm. Truck looks pretty! Does it share the same platform as the 150? Probably. I owned one before I bought my TACOMA. I couldn't drive my old 150 on my back 10 acres like I can drive my TACOMA, that's for sure. What you gonna use it for? Mall crawlin' or rough terrain. Also, Which one is gonna rust out in 8 years. Which one is gonna cost more? Only the buyer/OP can answer these questions...not bashing...

If you have the money, it is new, and you get the 6.2....then yes. That is one hell of a truck. If you don't have money to buy outright or afford the gas, you have to buy used (probably has a bent frame and been ran through the desert by some dumb-ass) or have to settle for the smaller engine...then no.

And if I owned one and had bent the frame on it, I would trade it in and not say anything. There are lots of pricks like me out there.

the majority of raptors have never touched dirt. buying used far from guarantees a bent frame...

By that logic, wouldn't it make sense to go with an SR5 Tacoma 4x4 rather than a TRD Off-Road if you plan on heavily modifying?

Unless you live in the desert (or travel there often) I don't see the purpose of having a LT truck. Don't get me wrong, they are bad ass, and I would love to have one. But I don't live in the desert and I would never actually get to use it.

That is an opinion - not a fact. When we are trying to help someone else make an informed decision it is important that we differentiate the difference between our opinion and actual facts. Statements like it is "just an F150" tends to lead people into the wrong direction. When someone points out that it is off road ready and covered under the bumper-to-bumper factory warranty that is actual fact that helps a person make an informed decision.

In my opinion, for my money... if I had the money I would go with the Raptor. You can mod your Tacoma to be a real beast off road and anything/everything you break is your dime. You can take your Raptor off road and anything/everything you break is warrantied. Such a beautiful and under rated word.

None yet, other than wheels :)
    So what's faster a 6.2L raptor a supercharged 4.0L taco?

And if I was going to be doing hardcore off-roading I'd buy an older truck that I didn't care about tearing up, not a brand new $40,000 truck!!

depends on the level of abuse you are planning to put the raptor through...

for most people, the $200 frame fix will get them right where they need to be and a stock raptor will be enough for them...

the people who drive like they are robby gordon or bj baldwin on the other hand need to sink at least $10-15K into the truck...

I understand. I wouldn't do any large jumps with the Raptor but it definitely is better for that than what anyone else offers from the factory. I don't see any heavy competition from other manufacturers for that market yet.
