If you want to make a purely emotional decision that is financially not in your best interest, trade a new truck for another new truck at a time when the costs are higher than history.

If you want the best decision, keep what you have, or sell it and find an older used vehicle that meets your needs as a farm/backroad weekend truck (not daily driver).

the powertrain debuted in 2021 then in 2022 they redesigned the interior/exterior. I’ve never seen it done that way but 2022 makes for the second year of the engine/trans but first of all the electrical gremlins to pop up. Your point is definitely still valid.

As tempting as new vehicles sometimes are, I’d stick with a vehicle that’s been around for a few years. Most manufacturers work bugs out and improve vehicles over the years of each model, so the best ones are the later ones.

That’s why I have a 22 Taco and wouldn’t consider the next bodystyle Tacoma until the bugs are worked out and it’s proven it’s reliability like this one has.

So, drive a Tacoma. If it’s too small then get a 20 or 21 Tundra (the new one is too new). I live in a city with narrow streets so no Tundra for me.

Or keep and enjoy your Frontier, good luck with whatever you decide.

This. not even that this forum would be a little biased. It is a well known fact, people complain about the performance, and now you bought a new truck and come to tell us again.

I'm personally fine with the 286hp, if i wanted to go fast i'd buy a performance car, or Raptor..or hop on a motorcycle.

Volvo did the same thing with the Drive-E engines that they put in the 2014 and 15 S60s, XC60s and I think S80s, so I felt it safe to buy a 2016 XC90. Unfortunately I still faced the thinner oil rings on the pistons that were resolved in the 2018 XC90s…..and now I’m here in my Tacoma lol.

I drove a 2000 Frontier for 16 years before i traded it in for my Tacoma.
I did like the frontier, it was just getting old and i always wanted a Tacoma.
If it works for you and you enjoy driving it, then get the most out of it that you can.

Funny you should mention this. My Taco replaced my 2001 Ranger super cab stepside with the 3.0 litre V6. The 3.0 is actually a very dependable engine but it has all the power of a 4 cylinder and the economy of an 8! My step up to 286 bhp from 145 bhp is a world of difference. Yes, I can very well live with the 286!

I'd buy a Frontier over a 2023 3rd gen, but you already have a 2022 so that does not help your decision.

Nothing against the 3rd gen those are fine trucks. If Toyota sold a regular cab Tacoma that is what I would go with.

There's not enough things to spend money on with Frontier unless it's repairs, so it should be more cost efficient.

There was a 4Runner in front of me a the light this morning. I thought damn I should just get one of those. Then another 4Runner pulled out from the side street behind me. I thought damn these things are everywhere.

You have 2 more years on a 3 year warranty, keep the Frontier until you hit 30k miles or 6 months left on the warranty. By that time the new Tacoma, Ranger, and Colorado will be out, all three of those are going to be turbo charged 4 cyl. engines. I can assure that the 3.8 v6 with the 9 speed auto drives better than the 3.5 v6 6 speed auto in the tacoma.

I'd wait on the electric Tacoma at this point. No way I'm buying a new gas truck.

All vehicles have recalls and stuff that breaks. You might leap into perfection, but it's unlikely.

Based on what you wrote, I vote no. As you're likely to be back here writing about multiple issues and how TW led you astray.

Your Frontier is basically a Mitsubishi Triton/L200/Strada which in some markets outsells the Toyota Hilux, but they are both the diesel models in other markets - something I would have bought over my '22 OR.

The drivetrain and chassis in your Nissan are well proven and have been around in various iterations since 1994 in the U.S. Montero. The V6 started as a 3.5L and morphed into the 3.8L that was available in the U.S. Montero in 2005 or 2006 I believe and 2006 was the last year for the Montero in the U.S. If you climb under your Frontier you will see "Mitsubishi" and/or the three diamond logo cast into the block, heads, trans, etc. It's basically a solid rig with some new body, electrical, interior, and other pieces. The gas Mitsubishi Triton/L200/Strada info in other markets should be a good indicator of what to expect.

Maybe so. But driving both trucks around town during the test drive, the Frontier sure felt like it had a lot more pep. At least that was my experience. You would think the 9 speed tranny would be worse than than the 6 speed because the 6 speed would let the engine run higher through the RPM range, but I think the Tacoma automatic and its factory shift points are terrible and make the truck feel a lot more "doggish" than it actually is. Unless you are constantly flooring the gas pedal. But again, this is just my opinion.

Get a tune in the taco. Night and day difference.

As far the OP, if you love the truck, keep it til near the warranty runs out. I would not keep a nissan out of warranty. My family has a mechanic shop. Says nissans breaks a ton.
