I haven’t even seen it in person yet but I’m strongly considering trading and cash on top for it if everything’s in working order like he says it is…what would you guys suggest. I wouldn’t mind building it up from scratch as I’d really like having the upgraded year and more power. Mine is a 1997 4x4 2.7L 5 speed with about 218k miles on it.

Uh, what about the part where the 2nd gen person is saying no trades?

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Yes indeed the no trades might slightly effect things

He wasn’t opposed to it when I sent him pictures of mine, even though he put no trades in the listing.

if yours is as clean/rust free as it looks in that photo - older is cooler. thats only getting more apparent as time goes on and things keep getting too modern and electric and all that. the only argument for the 2nd you mentioned is more power. personally couldn't care less, its a pickup truck. if you want power get a fun car on the side. theres a time coming in the near future where you'll kick yourself for not having the oldest thing possible, as long as its clean - dying breeds

While this '09 is newer than what you have, it's by no means new. You will be getting a newer truck, but one that you know nothing about the history of, and that's 14 or so years of unknown use. At least you know your truck, what you've done to it and what use it's been through. It comes down to your choice, of course, but unless you have good reasons for wanting to be out of your current truck, I'd think long and hard before inheriting someone else's problems.

Personally, I've always liked the 1st gens better than the 2nd gens. I could never get behind the looks of the 2nd gens, except the early ones.

I wouldn’t give too much cash on top of the trade.

The 2nd Gen has a better ball joint design.
    And a better front differential.

The engine is better. But 212k and no known maintenance history makes it null.
    No cash given there.

Agree with others, but you could always check the truck out yourself if you have the time. If everything looks in good order and it's what you want, then it's your decision to make. Whats you priorities? Bigger engine seems something you want. "Newer" truck that looks fairly built and maintained, or older one that you've had and used for long time. Down to preference.
