Should I trade my second Generation Taco

That video is very misleading, they should have stated what the distance was that the trucks were racing.

Go back and watch the races again and notice that the race only lasts 10 seconds, which would put them racing about 1/8 mile, Race 1 is a 1st Gen stick against a 3rd Gen Auto which runs from 3:58 to 4:08, Race 2 is a 2nd Gen stick against a 3rd Gen Auto which runs from 4:22 to 4:32 which is also 10 seconds, we all know that a stock Taco does not run a 10 second 1/4 mile. They should have ran them at 1/4 mile, if you notice in the vid the 3rd Gen is coming strong and is about to smoke them at the so called finish line.

3rd Gen`s are about 300 lbs heavier, but in the 1/4 mile the 3rd Gen wins every time.

Keep in mind that a Taco is not a sports/race car, it`s a reliable, long lasting fun truck to drive.

 

Idk, get it wrapped. I'll never give up my second gen. I do not like the motor in the third gen.

You're asking a bunch of alcoholics if you should have that whiskey shot. Hell yeah you should do it!

From a practical standpoint though, it boils down to how badly the paint is going to bother you (annoying but ultimately cosmetic) versus this perhaps once in a lifetime opportunity to trade in for "free"... It'll only get more expensive to trade up as the years add up on your '15. If that 4K payment is comfortable to handle, I don't see a better deal to trade up.

Otherwise I'd recommend taking your truck on some adventures and pocketing your hard earned cash.

 

We have had three super white gen 2 Tacomas. No paint problems what so ever. We drove the first two for five years and about 100,000 miles each. Our third super white Tacoma is about a year old and has 22,000 miles on it. Again no problems with super white paint. I always wax my trucks two or three times a year. They are always garaged at night.

But if you want a new truck and can afford, just buy the darn thing.

 

Do it!! I never owned a 2nd gen, but I had a first gen and traded it in on a 3rd gen and I don't look back. I also had a 2.7 and went to a 3.5 v6, so I feel like it was a huge improvement on power.

I would keep it. The 2016 have too many bugs that need to be worked out. Try holding out for the 2018 My 06 sport is on its last leg so I will be getting a 2017

Most have no issues. Go back to drive the truck. Push the ECT button, and have fun!

For the trade in price they are giving you - take it and run.

 

I traded my 15' trd sport for my 16' trd off road. There is big differences in the 2. They made me such a good deal I couldn't pass it up. I now have 3,500 miles on mine and so far all is well. Mine is sluggish but if you learn to drive it it will get up and go. I don't hual much with mine but I do pull a trailer regularly. It is comparable to the 15' towing.
Mine doesn't get any better or worse mileage than the 15'.
Overall I'm real happy with my 16'
I say if you like the new one go with it.

 

Ive had both (two 2nd gens Acess cab 2wd/ DCSB 2wd) and I do like the 16 much better. Its the things like interior revamp, key-less start, you can just drop the tailgate and it doesn't slam, LED driving lights, and its dead silent when I drive (kinda weird). I dont think it slower than the 2ng gen once it hits high rpm because it pulls well. The comparison video that those guys show is never really good in any truck review. All they do is mash the gas and are already 1 mile above sea level. Find me a vehicle that isn't slower one mile up.

 

Keep your 2nd gen. I just sold my 3rd gen. The 4.0 drivetrain is more torquey, I don't care what the numbers say. When you're floored and the engine won't rev over 1800 going up a kiddie hill, well, that was the last straw for me. I shouldn't have to switch to low range(assuming it would ever do that LOL), to go up a 20 degree hill. Love the look, hate the power! I ranted a bunch in 3rd gen threads about this. Good luck!

 

Just a thought, maybe they are offering you such a good trade in because a lot of people are looking for good low milage 2nd gens?

 

normally I would say keep what u got. However, since it seems like a "killer deal", I would test-drive the '16 & see how u like it. If all is good, I'd go for it!!

 

Yes it does. It does get better after 1200-1400 miles but it is still shifty.
In my honest opinion it is crappy programming. I think if it would actually stay in gear while allowing you to give throttle it would be better. If Toyota could eliminate this I think it would be a totally different truck.

 

You could always have the paint scuffed and put a premium clear coat on it.

 

I was just about to make the same recommendation.

Also spend some seat time in the 3rd gen to make sure the new tranny and engine combo work for you.

Have you not read one post on this great Forum? 2016's are Trashed. Nearly every day there's another post about something else Saying something else is wrong with the Brand New Truck. Trans fluid not filled from the factory, granted that's been fixed or has it? Not to mention the 2016's look like a Largemouth Bass with wheels and a bed.

 

Is Trd pro 2017 gonna get same shitty throttle response ? If so, why dump so much cash on looks ? My RAV4 drives better than gen 3 i test drove over the weekend. What the hell did they do to that nice motor?
