Tell the dog mom to give up the dog and maybe she will understand how you feel about giving up the Tacoma.

My ex loved how fast it was, especially when on a decently paved road, but otherwise had both hands on the girls because of how stiff the ride was.

The engines burn the wick at both ends. They’re fast, but terribly high strung and require serious dyno tunes if you want to modify. OTS tunes are tickets to ring land failure.

I'd only buy one if I were adding it to the stable. Still need a truck to often.

As mentioned by a bunch of other people, if fuel economy is something you're after, then the WRX ain't it.

I thought about getting one when I was in the market for my Tacoma, but one of the big things was that it didn't get better fuel economy despite being a smaller vehicle, and it took premium gas.

So happy I chose the Tacoma.

Had a 2017 wrx that I got rid of for the Tacoma. I prefer the WRX over the STI actually. Reason is it's got the new 2.0 litre while the STI still has the same motor it did 14 years ago. Suspension is good but much better for a daily driver than the STI. Just one man's opinion.

Funny thing is - the EJ25 is far more reliable than the FA20DIT, even if it is a dinosaur in terms of power and fuel efficiency.

I had a 2018 WRX with the CVT and it drove very nice, on the hwy driving normal my mileage was consistently around 8 litres per 100km, tacoma is more like 14. I traded it because it had a burning chemical smell from the front right area, the dealer would not acknowledge although everyone else could smell it, could not use defrost as it made it worse.. fucked up. Otherwise it was good, dont get the car thinking its fast, because it really isnt anything special.

Get a VW Golf R if you want the nicest little AWD rocket! Faster than the STI, way better interior quality, way better ride, you can special order one in with custom paint colours, etc!

Golf R is luxury compared to anything Subaru has to offer. Hell, even the GTI is. I’d take a GTI over the WRX any day of the week, AWF be damned. It’s what I traded in for the WRX :(

I've owned a few VW's and while I like them never again. My friend's 2013 GTi just had the timing chain tensioner fail last week nuking the entire top end of the engine. They're lucky they bought that extended warranty

VW screwed the pooch when they made the GTi a 4 door mom penalty hatch. One might as well buy a GLi and forgo the ugly

That’s just bad luck with the tensioner failure.

I had a 2DR and prefer the look, but the 4DR is so much easier. My buddy had one and I can’t imagine how awful it was getting in and out of the back of mine haha.

I bet I won't. Dont like small vehicles I have to get down into, dont like convertibles, and like being able to bring more then a duffle bag with me.

I traded my 16 wrx for the Tacoma. Although I miss the speed and handling here are a few things to consider: WRX ride quality is worse (bumps are jarring), a lot of things rattle like crazy, turbos will have something break eventually, MPG will go up but you'll be paying for 93 (50 cents more a gallon) so it may not balance out in your favor.

Man so much misinformation on this forum. Especially about diesels and turbos.

They’re not really equivalent, but the WRX is a very versatile sedan. The latest FA WRX gets in the mid-20’s daily driving and the high 20’s MPG on the highway. It’s MUCH LESS of a gas pig than the Taco. It can use 91 octane—93 octane is very scarce in these parts.

It is also quite reliable. The engine is not excessively prone to blowing up if you don’t mod or tune it. The FA has about a decade of experience behind it, so it’s not a “new” engine by any means. Turbo is not a new technology. They’ve worked the kinks out over 30+ years.

I loved my ‘18 WRX as super fun to drive and a great Swiss Army knife vehicle, but I eventually moved on to an MX5 and a Tacoma (for winter and utility stuff).

No way is the GTI better than a WRX. Its 0-60 is about a second slower than the WRX (6 vs 5.2 seconds) and NO AWD. Granted the GTI is a bit more refined style-wise than the WRX. The Golf R and Civic Type R are the only cars that are comparable, though they cost quite a bit more than the WRX. Oh and the Focus ST, which is being phased out.

...her hands could be on something else thats stiff bc a tacoma is a better ride. Note how that is now an ex.
I wouldn't waste my time with dog moms that don't like my truck, sounds like you need a southern woman.

I’ve had 5 GTIs over the last 15 ish years. The 2017 mk7 I traded in for the Tacoma was the best yet. Absolutely zero issues with that car. Only reason I traded it was because I really needed a truck for trips to Lowe’s and hauling my fishing kayak around. Pain in the ass with a car and was always worried I’d mess up the roof if I put a heavy ass kayak up on a rack. And I’m pretty sure the timing chain tensioner issue isn’t a thing anymore with the new engines. If I could afford both I would definitely have a GTI and a Tacoma.
