I currently own a 2015 double cab TRD off road. I had 2006 untill last year ( head gasket 225k)
I really like the look of the new truck, but concerned about first year stuff and the new engine

I have driven these trucks since 2006 and love them! I would hate to trade a known good dependable truck for a flashy not so dependable one.
I have seen a lot of complaints on the web and see a lot of used ones for sale low low mileage..

I work for Honda Automotive and our first year stuff is usually pretty right. I fell Toyota Standards are as good
I guess my question is has anyone traded and regretted it ?
    Thanks for the advise

Why not get some life out of the '15?

Are you serious? Spend a day in the 3rd gen section, engine leaks, diff leaks, sealant issues, vibs, transmission problems, etc. Im rooting for those guys, but why trade in a proven reliable truck that is essentially the same truck for what new looks, tech and a host of likely first year problems, not to mention the financial aspect of trading in a 15 for a 16. But whatever makes you happy and I mean that in a non sarcastic way, I buy MX bikes every other year, we all have our things.

Keep the 2015 is my vote. At least for awhile, I mean you've barely had it a year right? Let Toyota work the kinks out of the '16 and if you still want one a year from now, go for it.

I've got a 16 with absolutely no issues and I would still suggest sticking with the 15 just for the financial ramifications alone. Unless you find someone to buy the 15 from you outright you are asking to take a beating by trading in during the first year of ownership.

I previously had a 2010 Tacoma and IMO the 2016 is an upgrade in every area that matters to me, so I don't want my first paragraph to be misconstrued in that I wouldn't recommend the 2016 - I certainly would and will, just not to someone one year into their current vehicle.

Yes reading this thread started to change my mind .
It's not a bid financial aspect just taxes again
The corporation I work for owns Toyota dealerships that I can buy the 2016 truck for Invoice as I did my 15.
I know better then to buy first year build any car but was looking for better results from the Tacoma
    Thanks

The 16 will always be available and they build them every day... The 15's are done and in the record books. I think in three years you will still get very close to what you paid for your truck. The increase in prices on the 16 and the rediculous residual value on these trucks will be your friend. If the new drivetrain doesn't shake out you will never find a clean used 15. Just my thoughts, your truck, your money. FWIW my 15 is NOT FOR SALE!!!

Too much sense here ^. OP ever seen how much a clean 03-04 goes for these days? And no matter how you spin it, invoice or not you are still losing money trading in, vehicles are never an investment.

I agree with everyone's comments here and can't really add anything to what has been stated.

I'll trade you my '16 for your '15. That should tell you how much I like my '16.

I think you answered your own question with your comment, "I really like the look of the new truck, but concerned about first year stuff and the new engine", so keeping your 2015 makes sense.

With the exception of Sbpark, every post saying a solid "no" so far doesn't own or fit your question.

I say do what fits and works for you. I own a 4Runner & it's not even a '16 so I guess I'm as qualified.

If you're looking for more bed space, pick the '16 (deeper bed), better MPG, pick the '16, updated interior pick the '16, more power and guts from the engine pick the '16, like the new exterior look better pick the '16.
If none of this things are of any interest to you, keep the '15, nothing wrong with it.
Personally I really like the 1st Gen because it has a certain flair and persona about it's look.
The 2nd Gen looks rather bland to me.
The 3rd Gen has certain kind a flair also not like the 1st gen- but a certain flair to me.
    But that's just me.
    Your call...
    Cheers!
