Ever heard of snow? 4wd makes perfect sense for an on-road vehicle in climates that see snow covered roads on the regular, weird all those 4wd mom mobiles out there, guess they dont need them since they arent off roading or overlanding by your definition, lol.

I dont expect it to ride like a camry, but I also wouldnt trade ride quality, decreased mpg, etc. moving to an E rated tire when I have no need to.

It feels like it, cause you can accelerate faster or pick up faster but mpg is same to 1 mpg more. If offroading I would rather have a beefier tire. Just makes sense. I have run a 8 ply c rated and 10 ply e rated. That 10 ply will help in offraoding. I'm running 33" and mpg lost is about the same. Once going 33" you will lose mpg and it's a fact.

Agreed! I used to hang pretty decent in my stock prerunner sport back in the day.

lol. I remember passing a 4x4 Suburban or two that was off in a ditch when I used to drive an Accord up to the slopes. 4x4 isn't magic snow sauce. It helps, but you gotta know how to drive, too.

Anyhoo, not trying to convince you of anything. Just making conversation. We all make our choices base on what we deem important.

Correct, it isnt magic, but its pretty much a requirement here in the midwest and helps, I remember when I went to trade in my Prerunner after moving from AZ to NJ the dealer was like "how am I going to sell this, it's a 2wd truck".

I agree that a 4wd makes sense in areas that get alot of snow, or have rural areas.

My MPG goes down as well. A combination of heavier tire, winter gas, softer tire etc.

There is no argument that a heavier all terrain tire will drop MPGs, always, on every truck, no exceptions. That’s just physics. To what amount mpgs drop, is an argument that has no end, so is pointless to start.

Tread pattern and compound are big factors. I had the E and C in the same tire KO2s, 54 lbs to 44 lbs, I only gained 1.5 mpg after switching to the lighter tire.

There were plenty of days in the midwest if your didn't have a 4wd and good tires you didn't go anywhere

My open diff 4runner with 32" M/Ts and some franken-leafs in the back held it's own on the rubicon back in the day.

I mean they don't even stock them, unless its a fleet vehicle here. Same goes for all the 2wd TRD ORs I'd see in AZ, how does that make sense...

for sure it is good but I thought it would be more of a gain going to a lighter tire.

This was my apartment parking lot one day. I had no truck, I went no where for a day. My car is the second jump in that pic20200129_210315.jpg

I see more TRD Pros parked at the mall with armoralled tires than I do on the trails.

Number not so big but looking at it in percentages it is alot. I was suprised I lost 1.5-2 overall when I went to SL wildpeaks, bigger, heavier and more aggressive. I call it a fair trade off.
