My truck is a daily driver. So when I rebuild shocks I need to take them off drive about an hour to a guy who rebuilds shocks and wait around for an hour or two. Then drive back home and install them assuming I can borrow a car. Once I've even driven on the freeway without rear shocks. SKETCHY! Got them revalved and installed them on the street to drive back home.

I've watched him do it, asked questions, learned what does what, learned how to put new seals in, changing the different shims and/or shim stacks based on how I want the shock to preform, ect.

So recently I've been looking at just doing it myself for fun/testing, safety and saving time.

I found a no leak on/off schrader valve to check PSI with an adjustable nitrogen regulator for around $190
20 cubic ft. bottle for about $60
So all I would need is nitrogen gas. Haven't found out prices yet.

    What do you guys think?

    Short answer: YES

    Long answer: HELL YES

I'm going to be getting shocks and coilovers for my truck soon and I wanted to valve them after watching a short video that showed how to do it.

You should definitely get your own set up, even if you have someone else work on the tuning. And when you buy your cylinder, sack up and get the 200cuft cylinder. Fill prices aren't much different and you can use the additional gas to fill tires, run air tools, or even charge others for n2 fills etc. etc.

Ah alright lol. Yeah I wanted one I could check the PSI then turn the ball valve to fill as necessary.

Anyone know what the floating piston depth in the remote reservoir should be? I have a 2.5 x 8" remote reservoir and a 2.5 x 16" Smoothie Remote reservoir.
I emailed king and they said 0 flush against the hose side.

I thought it was about 2/3 the depth of the remote reservoir. So my ~11" Remote Reservoir would be about ~7.5" depth when rebuilding them.

I built all my nitrogen stuff from Amazon crap. yeah, my pressure may be a lb or two off but including cylinder, hose, gauge and air chuck I'm in it less than $100. Trick is not to let your friends know you have it so they don't want you filling their shocks all the time. Or charge $1 per shock. I also got the smallest bottle to start and will increase size everytime I go to refill.

What size bottle do you have now?
I'm thinking of getting a 55 cu/ft bottle. I kinda want a smaller bottle so I can carry it to my truck rather than taking the shocks to the fill station.
I also don't know how many shocks that will fill either.

I got the smallest bottle, not sure of the lbs but it stands about 2' tall. I haven't counted but it's filled at least 20 shocks for me.

I think they are about the same 55cu/ft which is about 27" from bottle to the top of the spout handle valve thing is and probably 24" tall bottle.
I picked up the 55 and it was relatively easy to pick up and move.

I built a dual full kit with 6’ braided lines, Schrader valves, and an 800lb regulator. Cost was about $250. 55 cu/ft bottle included. There’s a write up for a 600psi setup, I think single fill, on Pirate 4x4. FYI. On the west coast, I believe it’s west air gas is free refill after, I think 5 fills. I don’t know because I go in and they say “cool truck,” and stamp the shit out of the card.

I was in your same boat and had been thinking about getting a bottle instead of driving to get filled. It's a must have tool if you are going to be playing around with this kind of stuff. You should be rebuilding/valving if you can. I wish I got the bottle sooner for less down time. Sucks having just made an adjustment on Saturday night but can't go test til Monday. I picked up a 55 cu/ft bottle with the same intent to bring it with me to desert to play with resiviour pressure. I made sure to get one with threads/cap so the valve doesnt break off.

    Two separate companies:

Airgas, a billion dollar nationwide corporation.
    http://www.airgas.com/

Westair a "local" southern California family owned operation.
    http://www.westairgases.com/

I cant help on who does the free refill as my company does gases too, but I do know the owners of Westair, they are good people.
