Looking back into Toyota's history, most new models have the issues. Then a year or two into the new gen, they are fixed. I'm not saying it will be crap but most are thinking it will be all new. I'm going to wait for at least the 2nd year of the 4th gen. What do y'all think?

My 2016 was mostly minor stuff, but I would go look at the Tundra forums and pages, holy cr*p you’d think it was a Ford, lots of issues and just issues with fit and finish and quality. If the 4th gen Tacoma follows suit I’d be holding onto whatever you have for at least the first year or two.

Yes always, the 16 tacoma was brutal, the tundras aren't as bad but we're hearing stories from other dealers.

This goes for any new model, lease it sure, but don't buy one.

The 07 Tundra had a fair amount of issues on release as well. The 05 Tacoma's just took longer to become evident.

I was really hoping Prado/4runner was going to get the 4 cylinder turbo first, then pass it on to Tacoma, so it had a year to work things out.

I enjoyed the Turbo 4 cylinder in the Bronco but I've never heard of a turbo 4 cylinder engine that can get to 300k miles. 3rd Gen may end up being the best Tacoma ever.

I personally don’t want to buy anything until it’s in the 3rd year.

I actually got lucky with my 07’, some very late year 06’s got the new head gaskets.
And all 07’+ did if you go by the transition part # date.

The first year Tacoma may be fine but it’s hard to know. As a rule of thumb it’s good to avoid the first year of any new model from any manufacturer so that they can refine it and make corrections. Don’t be a beta tester so to speak.

I have heard people say that my whole life. As I almost never buy new it hasn't effected me. I just know how much I like Toyota and would love to buy one new one day.

My same thoughts, even a $62k limited has the same cluster. This was just one of the many posts from 1st year owners I thought his comment captured the sentiment well so saved it, lol.

Just in general, not even Toyota specific, most 1st year models have issues.

It's not the model of car or truck, it's the company falling apart.

Idk about you but my Tacoma only has 46k on it. Looking at Toyotas track record I shouldn't need a new truck until late 5th Gen. I ain't buying something just cuz it's new and shiny.

I think if you want a brand new truck, and its the first year of that brand new truck, buy the brand new truck.

I think you should wait until you see a production model. There's a chance you might not like it.

Why is that so funny? It have Tech where needed and old school reliability where needed. No high stressed small turbo engine or hybrid system. I don't see how this could be funny enough for that much typing. BUT I'm sure people with 2nd gen truck need something to make themselves feel better, because they afford a newer truck.....
