I wanted to give a shout-out to Core shifters for the short throw shifter I installed on my 2011 ACLB. This was an easy install, and one of the best modifications to my truck to date. As far as mpds go, this get put to use every time I drive the vehicle. This is the type of mod that you do not need to be specifically on or off road to recognize the drastic difference in the driving experience.

    1) Core-Hurst built a quality product that is easy to install, and comes with easy directions to install

    2) I broke a piece on the shifter on installation. I told my friend to tap a small plastic piece with a hammer not thinking that he actually would. Yeah, the small plastic piece broke. I contacted Core and told them what I did. A new piece was shipped out to me very quickly.

    3) I noticed a few days ago that my shifter was not as tight and was gaining some slop compared to when it was brand new. I emailed the company to see if there was anything I could do to tighten the movement in the shift mechanism. Their website stated that the company is small and is currently closed while they are on vacation for the next week or so. Yet, a few hours later I received an email from the company stating exactly how I can tighten my shifter up. It is back to feeling new.

I am not sponsored or affiliated with the Core-Hurst company. I am simply a customer who is having a great experience with their product and customer support. If you have a manual trans Tacoma I HIGHLY recommend you make the plunge and short shift it.

I have a bit of slop in my Hurst shifter as well - can you describe how you tightened it as per #3 in your post?

I had extra movement in the forward backward shift, but not left to right. I was told to check to make sure that the stick was torqued to spec (35 lbs) to the shift mechanism. The 2 bolts felt tight, but when I torqued them to spec, all the slop disappeared. I would say that the bolts did not feel loose at all, but once I put a torque wrench to them it was clear that was the issue. If I get movement again I will torque check all the bolts and apply some blue lock tight. Is this similar to your issue?

Ah - yes I did have that issue a while ago and ended up extra-tightening the bolts and putting locktite on them, as you said (though I didn't know that torque spec). However, my slop now appears to be inside the mechanism itself. I may have to contact Core/Hurst directly about that.
