Did you have to drill the holes because the notches weren't long enough? That was my issue since apparently the older style racks notches aren't wide enough. I extended the notches an inch on each side and did the trick. I complained to kb voodoo about this and they pointed me to the complete item description where it states that drilling is required for older model racks.

Is there a section in your build page about that rack? Looks great.

I think i have some updates in there I can't recall. But I have a ton of pictures on my computer at home. I'l he at work the next few days till I'm home. I can send you more then. As for now I'll be building a new rack. Still using the current mounts. It's going to be a low profile setup with the softopper folded down

Mine stay in the tote that has all of my other recover gear. My treads are inexpensive, but I liked the modular aspect of them for storage/use. I have a total of 6 individual pieces (below are 2 connected) that can be snapped together depending on the situation. Knock on Wood - I've not had to use them.

You're sidebar info makes it seem like you're all over. I might be interested in the old pieces when you get to that point. In any case, I dig the work and if you end up doing a page or adding to the build thread, seeing some detail would be awesome.

Yeah, it really seems like most of the commercially available mounts (any type of mount, really - hi lift, traction boards, jerry cans, etc...) are redonk expensive for what they are.

Whatever happened to bungee cords or a metal strap? I guess I don't understand the need (or want) to spend $60+ on something that a $2 bungee cord will do, too.

Don’t want them walking off. But I do agree the commercial stuff is to expensive.
My solution is 2 pins with holes and 2 locking pins. Holds secure and is a good theft deterrent

When I'm wheelin, I generally don't worry too much about my stuff walking off without me knowing - usually the only people within a 5 or 10 mile radius are people I know, and I don't generally leave my truck unattended anyway. When I'm not wheelin', all my stuff that would normally be exposed is stored safely in my garage/shop. I don't need to be lugging all that weight around when I'm shopping at walmart or going to work.

It really seems like most of those fancy CNC anodized "security" mounts are just ways you can leave all that stuff on your rig all the time so you can be sure everyone else knows you go wheelin (most of the time I see those kinds of rigs however, all that stuff is eerily clean, lol...).

Any one have a mount that bolts on to the stock roof rack on a 2nd gen.

I’m a plumber so I’m going in with a 5 lb lump hammer and an ox acetelyn rig but figured I would ask before I strap something to my truck that looks “like a plumber built it”.

That shovel will work fine for shoveling loose powdery snow, but that's about it. I prefer a full size garden spade. If space is at a premium you would be better off with a folding army shovel. It won't break like that plastic one will. When you are stuck you will be shoveling snow or mud out from under your truck. You need something that won't break. A long handle is also nice to reach waaay under there, but durability should be top priority.

I have a metal collapsible/folding shovel in the cubby behind my back seat. Not full size, but it'll work just fine in the event I need it.

I carry a folding entrenching tool behind the rear seat and a real shovel in the bed. A shovel is the first thing to reach for and the most important tool in many common recovery situations. It seems wise to carry the real deal and a compact and easy to store backup. And the little folder might come in handy in the case of a long emergency walkout situation.

I have the Maxtrax pins to mount them to the ladder frame on my trailer but for now, I'm just using their spare tire kit. Works great and they don't budge. I'll be making major changes to the rear of the truck and that carrier won't be there afterwards so I'll go back to sorting out the trailer solution.
