When we back in at the beach the rear of the truck is always facing the water. Sit under the 10x10 and cook under the smittybilt.

Sub’d For brainstorming. Hitting the Rockies for a few weeks at the end of the month and was laying awake last night thinking about how I’d build an awning. Was thinking of using a large diameter pvc mounted to the roof rack for storage then heavy duty canvas, telescoping poles, and simple mounting points. Would look crude I’m sure but it’s better than dropping 2 bills on a prefab roof awning.

For what it’s worth, I ended up buying one after wasting time and money trying to make a diy one work how I wanted.

Once I replaced the Bestop with a fiberglass shell, it made life way easier because of the shell rack.

You can find knockoff ARBs on eBay for around 100$-120$. I purchased one of these and it works well for what I need.

I have a softopper. Eventually wanna go with a slumberjack, but for now this cheap setup takes only 2-3 minutes to setup for one person.

Tent pools, guy lines, and a $15 tarp from Amazon. Rolls up into a small bag. I like this compared to a real roof mounted awning because of the versatility. Way easier to mount this anywhere on the truck rather than being stuck on one side.

Love it! Nice setup. How’s the durability? Hold up pretty well in a stiff breeze?

Got an 8ft one for 300 bucks. I'll post some pics for if anyone wants to use them as a frame of reference but ARB 5ft ones start at 300 so you can't go wrong doing DIY.
