Yeah I wish I had the money to put them on my truck then I would not have to carry a step ladder with me to the car wash everytime.

I came out from shopping at target to my gal outside the truck arguing with a guy. Guy pulled next to me in a spot, opened his door fast I guess with some force. Slammed my slider and put a huge dent in his door. He wanted me to pay for it lol. Cops called and all the cop did was laugh and told guy with dent to watch what he was doing. Sliders well worth the cash as door ding deterrents. Oh and I have bed stiffeners :)

I guess he wanted you to pay for his lack of respect for your property lol. I've seen people hit mine and I'm glad I have them on there. They were on my 2017 and I had them re-coated when I got my 2020. They were scuffed up and I had quite a few marks from car doors. They may not stop all door dings, but they help and I think they look pretty good on my truck. I may have to grab some bed stiffeners too. Just because lol.

I haven’t pulled the plug on bed stiffeners because I have a sleeping platform on mine that rests on the middle lip of the bed. I guess I could cut a notch out to accommodate them but maybe I’ll find a set that is shorter. I too was looking for more evidence other than just TW saying you must buy bed stiffeners but have no evidence to support their claim. So this thread has been helpful!

Yeah we've seen just two failures here, I wonder how many members there are on this forum

Of course with millions made over the years I'm sure we could find examples of every possible failure these trucks could suffer.

With bed stiffeners you'll never know if they prevented a failure. You may never have a failure without them. Either way it seems bedside failures are pretty rare.

Just going with that fact that you seem to be a firefighter:
    upload_2020-7-31_15-35-7.jpg

How many vehicles, homes, and businesses will never have a fire? But, I bet you advocate for fire extinguishers and / or sprinkler systems?

Life's full of choices like these without even getting into an insurance debate.

I'm not advocating against bed stiffeners I'm just looking for a demonstrable need for them.
The need for fire prevention measures and suppression devices has been widely documented for centuries. There are hundreds, if not thousands of structure fires in this country everyday. There is an absolute need for it and this is why every city, town and/or county has a fire dept.

When I started this thread it was my thought that these stiffeners were just glorified cleats for tying stuff down but now after hearing the arguments for them I may think differently. I have a shell that weighs approx 250lbs and I'm now thinking these might be a good idea to maybe prevent a much larger issue down the road. But can I get them to play nice with my bed extender? We'll see.

I am not saying that fire prevention does not work. I am saying that it is a bet. A percentage risk. Just like the possibility of bed side spreading.

I put down my thoughts in the past.

I didn't take it as anything but a comparison!

Bet? Hmm how about, risk mitigation!
