I know we all are just being tomfoolery, but I knew a guy who got permanent ban on TW for creating a very similar thread without putting the “bed rack”. lol, Go figure!

Anyone that has J hooks for kayaks, is there enough clearance from the side of the kayak and the roof rack? I have to weigh options for my kayaks

Used cheap Walmart J hooks and they worked fine with plenty of clearance although I’d recommend investing in better J hooks imo

There’s no drilling needed. The Tacoma already comes pre-tapped for the oem and most aftermarket roof racks. Just apply a bit of silicone beforehand for protection. It’s pretty straightforward

could you please show detail of how you mount the J hooks to the cross bars? I just strapped my kayak directly to the cross bars and thats look very unsophisticated

I don’t have actual photos but it looks like this

It works fine but there are definitely better options. The prinsu rack is too flat for the curved j hook clamps at the bottom

I see, so the T slot track in the prinsu bar isn't being used. I have similar stuff needed mounting, I tried t slot method, just won't fit tightly unless I damage the track.

I'll look into the clamping mechanism, thanks

Yakima Jaylow kayak racks are perfect for racks with 80/20 crossbars. The clamps grip the sides of the crossbars, not the top and bottom.
I don't know that I would trust the t-slots for mounting kayaks anyway. not enough surface area on a t-nut for something that will catch that much wind. traction boards, cases and such I wouldnt have a problem with, but not a kayak. We use 80/20 a lot at Amazon, and I've seen how little it takes for a t-nut to vibrate itself loose.

2021 Tacoma OR w/ RCI DCSB roofrack. Super easy to setup and install. Feels really solid so far. Easy to mount accessories using 1/4 - 20 - 5 1/2 inch carriage bolts. No complaints so far.

For those of you with sherpas I’m debating between the sport and normal. Any recommendations? Mostly have a Yakima skybox on top and small other things
