Have not used the camper tent in rain yet but as long as you bungie it on correctly I wouldn't expect aNY leakage. The shell is water/dust proof except where the tailgate folds up . The sides of the tailgate do allow water in if blowing from that angle. I will have to install some weather stripping to water seal it. This is pretty common from what I have heard.

Don't have a pic right now... but I got my Leer 100 off Craigslist for $500 and it's in great condition. If you can wait until one shows up and you're not firm on the color... you can save some big bucks!

Yeah, that's a crazy good price for the Z-series. Here in Florida it would have been around $2,199 or so.

Just bought this one of a 5 lug. Gem top. Gonna paint it black, probably add a sleeping platform...

So I bought a Leer 100XR. I'm already annoyed by it.

The fact that the rear door doesn't open very high is additionally aggrevated by the fact that the shocks on the door suck ass and don't open the door fully when the handle is unlatched.

the rear door also doesn't latch right. I have to bang on the glass or mash down to get the drivers-side latch to engage. Like it's out of true or something, since the passenger-side seems to engage just fine, and first.

Additionally, the shop that did the install apparently left a whole ton of wiring loose under the truck, which I arrived at work a couple of weeks ago to find dragging, and if I so much as touched it I had the horn start blaring. I cable-tied it up in a loop under the truck for now.

Finally, I should have gotten windoors of some sort. The sliders open to the front, but only if I crawl into the truck and tug the crap out of them. This last bit is my own fault, as I didn't know what I didn't know, but not being able to access most of the bed is a pain in the dick. I'm looking at building or buying a bed-storage option or bed drawer, or both, to deal with this annoyance.

the first three options may be able to be dealt with, but it means taking time out of work (don't think shop is open weekends) to go yell at someone, then have to deal with waiting or getting a ride, etc.

For anyone considering a shell, I would read through this whole thread and read other people's experiences, and ask questions, and try to meet u with someone local to you to see the shell you want on the truck you have.

    ETA:

Wish I had gotten a bedrug too. The fact that it fills in the floor grooves would make for much less painful climbing in and out, and installing it now after the topper is going to be another pain in the ass whereas installing the bedrug first would have been much easier to deal with.

That sucks..I too installed a Leer 100 XR in August.

Two weeks ago, the drivers side latch would not "latch". A little tinkering and discovered the cable going back to the turn knob was a tad tight. Allen wrench and adjusted. Works great.

My struts work great but I'm only 5'9" so it opens fine for me.

Windows: pain to open as they go forward. My last truck had the XQ windows with rear turn knobs. Liked the looks of the XR better this time. I took a 3' length of 1/2" wood dowel and cut a small notch in the end...End of dowel opens, notch grabs so I can close. Not real pretty but it works. Also have a bed mat so my old knees don't feel the grooves.

And....my wiring sucked also. Had to ziptie it up to keep from having stuff hit it.

Maybe ARE or ST next time for me???

I had the exact same problems you are describing with my leer as well. I absolutely drove me nuts

You should be able to adjust the latch to help it close a bit better.

The struts are replaceable, but you may have a hard time getting it to go any higher

When I replace my cap after a crash I got a ARE specifically because o hated the door on the leer. It may not be specific to all leer caps however as I have a buddy with the same cap on his ford and it isn't as bad as mine was

I think the lines on the leer were much nicer and looked awesome but the ARE door opens better

Leer 100XL. I had to send the first one back due to cracks and poor body work and craftsmanship. Not sure if I would buy another Leer.

What did you attach the bunges too? You must of had to drill through the roof or was there something already there.

Yea, this one is the older silver 1E7. My truck is a 2014 with 1d6. It's a little darker. Not sure if I want to put the money in it. But I stole it for 200$

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
other than rear door shock replacement the ARE has been a great cap with no issues.
