Looks great! What did you pay to have it done? I was quoted $700 for a Leer 180 SB.

So I took my Tacoma and photoshopped the camper shell to what I would want.

I've looked around all over and haven't been able to find someone who makes, or would be willing to make this shell! There's a guy who makes the Aeroshell for F-150's and a few other trucks, but when I asked about my Tacoma, he said he couldn't do it because he hadn't made any before for Tacomas.

The lid would open up with the pneumatic tubes kind of like a hatchback. The idea would be that I could leave the lid open, if I needed the extra room. (liftgate's open position would be parallel to the roof.)

Anyone know of someone that makes something like this for Tacomas?

Yeah, it's very similar to that, but nobody seems to make anything like it for the Tacoma.

Ya, I am pretty sure they only ever made it for the H3T. I almost bought one off CL to put on the Chevy Colorado that I had.

I contacted this guy about making one of these for a Tacoma, and he's the one that said he could not.

I personally love that it pops up to this if need be.

I just found this company. Anyone heard of them before? It looks like they offer a camper shell for the Toyota Hilux (which is the Tacoma over seas)

Me either. If the lid was open for extra space you'd have a traditional shell work the same and not need to be open.

    Color me curious.

^ pretty much the same point of a tonneau cover with more space and versatility. As everyone know it rains a lot in washington so it is hard to keep things in your bed dry. I don't like tonneau covers because they don't give you that much space to put anything. When I did have one I always had to leave it propped up with a load.

I leave my canopy on probably 10-11 months out of the year.

Yeah a cap makes sense, I'm talking about that aero thing...

It's fugly and you may as well have a cap for the added space

According to some these would also reduce air drag since the air could just roll off the back instead of having a big dead square on the back. Even semi trucks are adding aerodynamic panels to the back of the trailers.

I say, each their own. I am sure there are things that you or I do that others look and think WTF is that person thinking. No need to bash it though. Every idea has it's place.

Easy tiger... I wasn't bashing it just genuinely curious as to why someone would want it. :)

I can't imagine it would be that big of an MPG savings. Is that the only reason for this style?

Uh huh... I mean, I am not offended or anything but that's pretty bashy.

Removing the tailgate to save MPG wouldn't save too much either but people do it all the time because they believe it helps.

Your right OZ, everyone should just do what the person next to them is doing. No need to question the norm or be creative.

    Good input.

Nope. I just get perturbed when ignorant grammar Nazis think their opinions are more important than others. Creative ideas should not be dismissed as though they are insignificant.

And ill fix that sacing four you too sence you we're so kinnd
