Too close & make sure your clamps are tightened. I had an issue on my last Ranger where the clamps were not staying tight so it would slide closer to the cab (mostly because I had my spare in there). Make sure the cap is lined up & even with the front of the bed and tighten the clamps.

    Thanks for the replies...
Here's a few pics, sorry my camera was acting up and it's dark out so...
The last pic is for reference as far as location front to back.
I think there is some wiggle room to move it back a little.
Does it look too far forward? The shadow's don't help any...
I noticed it was a little further over to the passenger side too so that's not helping either.

That ARE is not a proper fit for your truck. I have an ARE Z series on my 2014, it was off of a 2005, so I know that the fit has not changed. On mine, the shell fits in a manner that completely covers the black rail caps, all the way around. I will look for some pics to post.

My guess is that your shell is not for our generation of Tacoma...

The are v series caps sit on top of the bed rails. It's what I have. However mine has never hit the cab. But I dont wheel it to hard either.

The reg cab has a slightly different cab profile than the AC or DC when it comes to caps IIRC

No idea, came with the truck. It looks very close to me (and I've owned several Taco's with shells) as far as profile to the cab, gate fit etc.. but who knows?
I'll take it by a local accessory shop that sells ARE's and see what they say...

    Thanks again guys...

Data tag.. imagine that! Well I guess it's a V series and it is for a Taco, whether it's for a std cab or not IDK.. Been trying to cross the numbers on ARE's website. Edit: Just sent the info to ARE to see what they say

    Wow , weird

You're really relying on the bed cap seal to keep water out in that case

I had a chance on a cap that rested like that. I didn't know how good it would seal so I didn't bite on it. Like my Leer 100R.

I tried going the used route. I live in the sticks, 150 miles from Salt Lake City. The good ones are sold within hours. I know around here Taco owners are watching and waiting for them to hit the market. I finally gave up and bought new. I know that if I were to ever get rid of it, it wouldn't stick around long.

Yeah I havnt had any issues yet. I did double seal it when I put it on. Would have rather had one that covers the bed rails but it was too good of a craigslist deal cinsidering it was already the right color.

Finally pulled the trigger on a Snugtop Rebel with fold-down front, windoors, and roof tracks. Now the wait begins....
