Yeah, I like the white for the heat. My dogs ride back there a lot and I do wonder if a black top would be hotter on them. It does get good air flow though.

Plasti-dip or paint the roof white or silver, that would help a lot sight the heat and something I plan on doing when I get a cap.

Drove down to Mass last night and picked up a used Leer 100R. Production date is 11/12/2013, so it's just over a year old and the right color. Got it for $700, which was a great deal as far as I'm concerned!

I'm going to be needing a rack system for it. I really like Thule stuff, but haven't had much luck finding a complete system. What do you guys use/recommend?

As far as temperatures and paint color... I've researched it before and all my findings conclude that while black vehicles get hot faster, they all come to the same final temperature. So I think a little ventilation would go a lot further than painting the top.

I have always used Yakima. Partially because they are a local company here in Portland Oregon and two I just like their look over Thule. There is a Rack Attack in Boston and one in Portland Oregon and I recommend them as far as buying thru a 3rd party (they will ship to your house so check out their website rackattack . com). You can use Thule & Yakima interchangeably so it makes them a good option.

Yep, ARE says it's right for the truck. Took it to a dealer and they wiggled it around a little, then I took it home and wiggled it around some more to get it straight. Hopefully there's enough room between the two now.. if they can't play together the cap is gonna go!! lol

    Again thanks for everyone's input.

You guys are killing me with the awesome used camper finds... I paid full new retail price for mine! Wishing I had waited longer and searched around more.

Okay, thanks for the input. I've been looking on the RackAttack site already, they seem to have the best selection. One thing I don't understand, do I have to buy the rails, feet, and crossbars separately? Or is there a complete system I can buy to mount on the cap?

Anyone ever added Thule rails to a shell? My shell didn't come with rails and I would like to add them. I understand that it's not reinforced but I don't plan on putting a bunch of weight up there. I have several Leonard dealers close by that I'm going to contact about adding them just didn't know how intense it was to add them myself. Thanks for the help.

Also, what kind of weight would the shell support? Give or take.

I added rails. Used the frontrunner ones that are just universal rails from whomever you decide to buy them from. I would decide what rails first, not the tracks and go that route. I say RAILS because I recommend you get something adjustable just in case your needs change in the future. You will be able to remove them or move to another position./
