I will be in Orange County for a week (shipping from Oahu to LA) and figured the prices would be better then Hawaii. Ventura is not to bad of a drive if the price is good. So far quotes have ranged from 2300 to 2900. Has been a long while since buying one and am amazed by the price jump.
    Thanks for the recommendation

Just got 2 quotes For a SnugTop Sport Hi-liner with Carpet headliner, side sliding windows, folding front slider and Pro Lock.
Long Beach dealer was $1955+tax and dealer in Norco is $1870+tax.
    Both include $50 installation.

Discount camper shells in long beach, right near the long beach airport is a small shop run by father and son. They are good people and did a great job helping me out. They will beat competitor prices as well. Allen, the son is a good dude and handles the sales.

That's the one that gave the the $1955 quote. I chose the Norco dealer to order from as it was cheaper and easier for me to get to.
I miss Shell Country in Irvine where I bought my last 2 shells from.
Rony was a great guy to deal with.

Just got back from a 450 mile road trip to get my new shell from Fearless 4wd in Redding, Ca. Delbert and the crew did and amazing job setting things up! They even went as far as to pull a set of rails off the XTR in their show room and sent them out to have them powder coated satin black for me so they could install them as soon as my shell came in. Great folks, great service, and they definitely do right by their customers. Had me in and out of there in about 1.5 hours with the shell and the full bed rug set installed.

Snug Top XTR Inferno (first one they have done, couldn't get the paint right so finally ordered the paint direct from Toyota). Fold down front window, ProLock rear latch, Hard wired LED interior light (actually lights things up pretty well), with a full Bed Rug liner.

I spoke to a leaf spring specialist about my truck. Even after my AAL I am sitting level and maybe a little less. The mechanic said that the topper on a Tacoma is enough to make it drop 2-3". He will reset my springs with a +2" rake for towing for about $600. I am waiting on the Toyota recall remedy beforehand.

Here is mine. Craigslist find for $250. Got it color matched for another $300. Added an OEM roof rack from a 90's (i think) Nissan Pathfinder and adapted a roof basket from a Jeep Cherokee to the Nissan rails. I still use the cross bars to haul a ladder or my kayak. IIRC with at the parts including the interior LED light strips and used full coverage bed Bed Rug, I have about $700 in it.

On a side note, who's found a good mattress to put on a sleeping platform? I'm looking for something about 6.5-7ft long by 57" wide. Preferably 3-4 inches thick that I can roll up out of the way when not sleeping.

For $600 I would buy the Wheelers HD leaf pack instead

I like using a Thermarest pad. Not the least expensive, but is comfortable and rolls up quite small (comparatively).

Nope...still sits pretty flat front to rear...very slight drop...shell is only a couple hundred pounds. Pics were taken at the shop so straddling a drain and slightly uphill. If you want I can measure front and rear...were both about the same stock....might have dropped the rear 1/2" or less. Did take a bit of the harshness out of the empty truck ride.

Here's a pic of it sitting on pretty flat ground....

I had a V series on my old truck. This time I splurged and went for the Z series. I love my current setup, but I gotta say I loved my V series more. Especially for half the price of a Z. If I had it to do all over again, I'd go back to the V.
