I carry a 17 foot canoe on my 2002 Access Cab with one cross bar on the cab and two on the cap. Strapped down pretty tight. No damage to the canoe or cap in 16 years of using this set up.

Who's got Leer windoors with the sliding window? Do they leak? The leer guy in my area said they did and steered me clear of them.

I got my Leer back in March and it has rained a TON here in Missouri since then. Zero water inside my shell as far as I could tell.

I got the RQ 100 or whatever it is called with the sliding side windows. No idea why they would be more susceptible to leaking than anything else, they are solid.

It was the Leer Store in Oregon City and the cap that's on my truck right now was definitely not in stock. I don't think anyone who goes into a place like this gets a "floor model" unless they're willing to settle with a miss-matched canopy.

Thanks for the help here! Anyone else?

Is it necessary to add on to the suspension with the addition of a shell?
I started a thread but I'll ask here too.
    Thanks

    That's a tough question.

You want your suspension to be designed for the weight of your truck. (The factory suspension allows for some weight in the bed.)

So, adding just the shell, you will be fine.

However, fill the bed with an interior, tools, parts, camping gear, fuel, water, etc. and you will want to consider an upgrade.

Get some type of aal. It will beat you to death if you add a shell plus any additional weight. Took a 6 hr road trip with 4 adults, luggage, and Leer 100XQ. Beat us to death.

You could add a rear aal and with the weight of the shell the rake shouldn't be too aggressive and if it is, add some front suspension.

That's how it starts by the way:D

I agree to an extent. If you have the correct 4 leaf. My 3 leaf in my old truck wasn't great.

    Thanks. Helpful info.
    Any recommendations for the aal?
    Ballpark prices?
Yeah, this is what I am scared of.

I have a shell and never had to upgrade my suspension, even with it filled with camping gear, food, etc. I do have the 4 leaf pack tough

I've taken it 65+ out in ocotillo and it seems to handle it well, haven't had any issues so far.
