I don't know the value of your AR and ammo, but it sounds like you got a good deal. I paid $3,300 for my camper brand new, with all the options, from the local ARE dealer. The top of the line snug top was similarly priced. I went with ARE because I am a previous ARE owner, which I was happy with, and I like the ARE dealer better.

It was nothing fancy by a long shot, that's why I'm more than pleased with the exchange. I got lucky for sure

Has anyone had a problem with your shell not holding enough weight for your RTT?

Someone earlier said they put a rack, rtt, and sleep at least one person on top of a shell. That seems way too heavy to me. The manufacturer said theirs has a capacity of 200 lbs, unless you request a reinforced one at time of ordering, which can hold 500 lbs.

I've bought these previously for other purposes and they're good quality, plus they're stocked in the US so it takes very little time to get them, 2 days if you have Amazon Prime. The warm white LEDs of all brands I've seen are way too yellow for me. I much prefer daylight white.:

Dealer said it wasn't abnormal. Offered to take a file to it which I declined. I've kind of just forgotten about it. I cleaned it up quite a bit and got all the loose fiber off. It hasn't progressed any worse at least. Looks to me like they need to pay more attention when doing the final finish work. Everything else about the topper is fantastic and when I see a comparable Leer or ARE Im still glad I bought a Snug.

For those of you running a shell on the 2gen Tacoma ever look in your rear view mirror notice how much it moves side to side when going over bumps ? I know the beds on ower trucks are flimsy but with the wight of the shell is that anything to be concerned about?

    Not enough...

The bed and the cab flex independently of each other by design.

I have used mine with me (190lbs) and my wife (115lbs) in our CVT Mr. Rainier (150lbs) plus the awning (~25lbs), the rack weight (25lbs), and all of our gear on top (total weight ~510lbs). I distributed the weight by using 4 cross bars rather then the standard 2. Occasionally we use the annex which also adds more weight to the overhang.
