I'm about to buy an ARE V series and I am debating on having them put on the roof racks or not...
Any thoughts? I don't have an immediate need for them but I'm wondering is it easier to just get them put on new rather than wait until I need them someday?
Also, is there any added noise with the roof rack on?
Also, is there a better aftermarket option than the Yakimas the dealer would put on?
    Thanks

Just get the rack now, it will have the factory warranty and its very handy. Didn't notice any extra noise. Easy to remove if necessary.

I wouldn't pay someone to add a rack to my top... Unless the price was very reasonable. On both the tops I've had, I bought the Yakima tracks (~$90) and added them myself. All you need is a drill, some silicone sealant, tape measure, and maybe some painter's tape. Very straightforward to install...

That is a good point though... Both my tops were bought used, so I didn't have to worry about the factory warranty.

I installed them myself.... how much is the dealer going to charge for the install? Frontrunner racks are awesome and there is also the Prinsu racks made by mr. @zscott. Just depends on what your needs are. Frontrunners tracks are actually cheaper and way stronger than the yakima or Thule tracks. Im not sure if Prinsu makes tracks or not. Check em out.

I got the Thule/Yakima tracks on mine because they threw it in for free. I have plans to attach a prinsu roof rack to them to mount my RTT

I always wonder what my truck would really look like without the cap, really can't picture it.

Lastly, I thought I would prevent the firestik from making contact with the shell thus causing damage to the paint. I'm not sure if others have run into this issue before and thought it would be best to be prepared

If you are buying a new shell and want to keep your warranty buy the rack from the mfg up front. You might pay a bit more but peace of mind was worth it to me. I have no added noise up there with my Thule though I haven't hauled much yet other than 2x4's.

Inside your bed reminds me of mine! Cap looks good!!

I've had zero issues with the CB antenna hitting the cap. Looking at mine now, would prob only happen going reverse under low branches :notsure:
