That's a filler and will help, but I'd still want something in front of the front cap/bed mating surface. Just sayin'

EDIT: Not sure if my installer added a filler in addition to the flap in front,
but I think I recall some info about it from him, but that WAS years ago

Would it be just easier to take the cap off, run a thick or thin bead of silicone, and then put the cap back on.

 

If the cap's gonna stay on, it would be, if the gap's not to big. I think it may be, at the bed front of the Tacoma.
For anyone taking the cap off annually or semi-annually, it might be a hassle.

In my case it was leaking when the truck was parked. Toilet paper all along the seam showed it was only the corner. Probably the little gap that several have identified.

Finally got my Leer installed and I can't tell you how much I love it! Have a few other goodies coming in the next couple weeks but I think the mod bug is off to a good start here!

 

this is the place to get the thicker gasket to stop the water up by the cab from coming in. it is not just toyotas, any pickup that has bed rail caps that sit higher than the front bed panel will have this issue. also the puddy can be used to fill a small gap between different size gaskets. the bed rail caps will leak between the cap and the metal bed of the truck, remove the cap, shell,camper top, then remove the bed rail cap. apply silicone between the cap and the metal part of the bed, reinstall. this leak happens at a car wash, or a super heavy rain. sealing a pickup top is very hard to do, it is not like a suv. good luck , i am a finish carpenter , and have had trucks with toppers for for forty years. keeping the water out of my tool storage is a difficult task.

Thanks! I was a little worried about the color matching since the trucks a couple years old but Leer did a great job. BajaRack will go on tomorrow, and a progressive AAL is next up.

 

Also guys, I was having trouble getting my mounting bolts to stay tight (the ones that hold the shell to the bed) so I ended up getting them fully tight, then putting nylock nuts on the bottom side to stop them from being able to back out. them coming loose is what caused my brother in law to shift on his brand spanking new off the lot 2016 tundra and take all the paint off the side of the bed where it contacted. which ended up being all the way around the bed because it shifted back and forth a couple of times.

 

I too checked the bolts and they had loosened off,not only that id say 75% of the screws around windows,were loose as well,,just something else to check

 

sometimes it amazes me what $2500 bucks will buy you these days!

that's true if you don't have anything holding them in place, like a nylock nut or something like that. I don't see a downside to having one on there if the goal overall is to have the bolts STAY tight the whole time. I understand it needs to settle a little to begin with, but for the sake of having a stable and more maintenance free product I would figure that they would at least have a 10 cent part that they recommend you or the original installer put on to ensure that their product continues to function as its intended. I may be an isolated case but it wasn't even mentioned to us that they may come lose and that we should check. the only reason I did check was because these guys seemed completely incompetent when it came to their job. its just a bunch of little things about mine that made me question whether this product was worth the money I paid or not. overall I love the thing, but I think that the level of service and the little details that were overlooked with it decreased the actual value that I would have put it at.

Sorry about the rant. I value my money (because Im not rolling in it) and think customer service says loads about a company.
