Not disputing what your saying, but, I had the same Leer Canopy (100XL) on a 2006 Frontier that I have on my 2016 Tacoma now and I don't recall ever tightening the bolts on it other than about a month after the install and it never leaked, I know it is a different style box, but just saying...

There other thing I notice is that my older Leer 100XL had 3 clamps on each side holding it down and the 2016 Model Leer uses only two clamps which go through two built in mounts in the canopy, maybe the canopy needs 3 clamps on each side to stop one of the potential leak spots.

The loose window frame bolts may be the source of some of the water, I am going to check mine tonight.

The loose bolts holding the canopy down may be another source of water leaking into the canopy as well, good find!

I am wondering if this canopy needs three bolts on each side like my old 100XL had.

I do not own a camper but I really enjoy this thread and was wanting some opinions on what would be a good camper for my set up. I mainly would be using it for actual camping (sleeping inside and dry storage type stuff). I want something that looks pretty slick and I'm not too familiar with all the options. Thanks guys.

I am/was torn between form and function. I think the cab-high looks the best but the extra headroom could be really, really nice when camping in it. I think the best bet for you is what I'm going with is the Leer 100RCC with side sliding windoors, remote lock, interior lighting and carpet, roof racks. The quote I got for mine with all the options was $2,500. If you'd prefer to not get cab-high for a little more room then look at the Leer 180. Either way windoors are a must- such a pain to have a shell without being able to access the front of the bed without having to climb in.

You can get a SnugTop Rebel, dual vented windoors, carpet, pop down/sliding front window for 2500. I also think you can get a top of the line Z series from ARE for that kind of coin. Definitely go the windoor route, they are so worth it. If you know you will be camping, you could also get a reinforced shell, which can carry an RTT, (roof top tent). But you need to tell the dealer you want it reinforced at time of ordering.

I just had an X-Series topper from ARE put on my '15 last weekend. Going to use it for camping......just throw a twin mattress and a sleeping bag in back and put the kayak on top. I really like the looks of it, too. Was $2100 with the Yakima rack on top and window options.

Anyone here take their camper shells through the car wash? I'm sure plenty of people have but I'm a little skeptical about it. I've got the Leer 100R with pop out side windows.

Des Moines area. Yeah, I almost got the Z series, too. You going to camp in yours or what? Really chamges the look of the truck, but in a good way. I normally think toppers look oldmannish, but on Tacomas, they really work well.

The salesman said it's no problem, as long as I remove the bars from the Yakima rack. The mounts can stay on, but the bars should come off. I haven't tried it yet, buy yeah, I'll be nervous the first time I do it. Kinda like sex.

(There, I said rack, mount, come, and sex in one post.)

Well I got a new ARE CX shell put on yesterday. Passenger side window leaked on the way home. Headliner was wet up by the cab in the front too. Not sure if it is the folding window or coming in through the truck / cap seal and being sucked up into the headliner. That needs investigation. The passenger window definitely needs to be fixed. Hear we go. For $2K quality control on both Leer and ARE suck.

Bear - I am installing a new SnugTop tomorrow and i will let everyone know how that goes. However, talking to the installer today he said they always remove the front bed cross "bar", seal it underneath where it meets the bed structure and reinstall it. He says that if they don't it probably will leak. Check this with your vendor and see if they do that also. Best of luck on getting it fixed.

Mine leaks up at the front of the bed too. I'm more worried about soap getting all in the headliner. I've got a bed mat, but I don't want a bunch of soap to get trapped on the inside.
