How much does a paint job run on a shell? I have seen a few shells I would have picked up, had the color been right.

I just priced my snugtop dealer and the most expensive they had to sell was 1500. And that's, of course, special order to hawaii. Different dealers will have dramatically different prices. My first tacoma I paid $450 for a new cap.. was a canceled order.

Really, they're all about the same and same price. (i've owned all 3 major brands) most people confuse the cheap model A.R.E with a high end SnugTop and think that the snugtop is nicer. Its not the case. As a matter of fact. I find the snugtop to be as functional and "pretty" as the rest of them, but lacking in some detail work. I would shop elsewhere first before a snugtop dealer if I had a choice.

That one that is "sweet" has the "windoor option". It is not standard you won't find it without asking for it that way. Its the only way to go in my opinion. Why would you climb all the way up on your belly to get stuff from the front of your truck bed. Open the side and get it. Also makes for easily hanging bags on the cargo cleats.

I do NOT like how my snugtop both fits and connects to the truck. They may all be about the same, I don't know but snugtop is as follows. There's a good 1/2 inch all the way around the thing, which isn't horrible, and its not square, but its not noticeable really. The thing attaches to the bed cleat rail system using bots and hooks. I don't know how else you'd do it, but the bolts just go through these big lobes of fiberglass which seem like they would snap pretty easily if you were to tighten it down much at all. As it stands I have it tightened down as much as I can bear to put on the rails OR the fiberglass lobes and it can still be moved slightly. I'm working on it though. See what I can do to make it stick better. Its not moving around on its own.. but its shaking separate from the bed which seems like it might be hammering the rails and stuff. My other caps had thicker fiberglass and re-enforcement. The snug top, though very light (couldn't tell you how light vs an Are or leer) doesn't have this re-enforcement.

Also, it has cuts in the fiberglass at the corners where they trimmed it with a sawzall or something when taking it out of the mold. My last snug-top had similar maring but other brands didn't

It also has very thin glass... like, real thin. 1/8" Little thinner than my last couple caps. Lighter weight, maybe not any weaker due to it? And with the windoors it has no vents, other than the poorly fitting windoors, but that's not enough to get air in there for a dog or heat sensitive things in the summer.

Again, I'm not trying to "rip" on the thing. They're all about the same. But that's my snugtop. If I had not gotten it used, I might have felt I overpaid. Turns out $150 was about what I feel it was worth.

keep looking yea. THey show up. People turn in leases etc..
You can paint one yourself for about 60 bucks or have it painted for 1-300 bucks depending on shop. If you brought it in with the windows out it might save you a few bucks in masking time.

Tailgating with my ARE cap at Virgina International Raceway this fall for the 13 hour event. We had a great time that day and got pretty buzzed. I didn't want to drive home so I camped the night in the bed on my blow up mattress...great weekend! Just another reason to have a good cap IMHO...

Not the fanciest rig but this Taco works for a living. The side windows are great when you carry as much stuff as I do every day.
