Usually RC does stand for regular cab. I would go back to the dealer and talk with them.

I couldnt help it any more. In prep for my new LEER 100R with Thule Rack, Sliders, rug liner, my son and I decided to build a simple bed platform using 2x6's and 3/4" out door rug covered platforms...

Cap looks great to me. Not sure what would be different. They both have the same size box.

The cab of a regular cab truck is more straight up a down which causes a larger gap at the top of the shell.

Man jealous of you cap owners! I priced new ones in my area and I refuse to pay $2500 for one. I keep checking Craigslist daily and within a 600 mile radius and still nothing.

    I can't wait to have one :(

There are some places that sell them used, you don't have to buy from a person.

I have been searching those places as well. I either find long bed versions or ones for 2004 and older

I searched for a year and half in Colorado for a DCSB cap, no luck. When I moved to Georgia I ran into the same things. Either a long bed, or a first gen cap. When I finally did find one on CL that was about 3 hours away, the owner refused to sell to non-locals. I was more than a little disappointed.

I finally decided to buy new, and yes, I spent $2300. In the end, totally worth it. I got the Leer 100RCC so the roof will support 450 pounds in case I ever get the funds for a roof top tent, or I just decide to load something substantial up there (not likely). I also got the Win-Doors, carpeted interior, and a sliding front window (not the drop down) and of course color matched.

Don't get me wrong, I didn't just pull $2300 out of the air. I started with a budget of $500. Every month I would add ~ $100 to the pile while looking for that perfect sweet deal on a used cap that I see everyone else getting online. After nearly 2 years, I had the money to buy a new one. Again, totally worth it.

I must say however, when I realized how much money I had saved up, I nearly didn't buy a cap. ~ $2000 is a lot of money. There are bumpers, suspension, bed racks, winches, lights, and whole host of things I could have bought. In the end though, I stuck with the cap because it was the next logical step in my slow/budget conscious build. Even my CB radio is used.

I am not saying everyone should buy a new cap. I am saying that buying a used cap just wasn't in the cards for me. I never found that perfect deal. But in the end it worked out. I understand the frustration.

That was extremely well put. I am trying my hardest to find a used one. If I don't find one by next summer I will just end up buying a new one.
I usually spend around $1500 a spring on mods and I'm pretty much over that point already. So I'm stopping myself from further purchases until next summer for the purpose of a new one.
    Thanks for your input!

Do you have any more details on the process to dip the shell? I've been thinking of having mine line-x'd, but am thinking this might be a good cheap first go at it. Did you tape much off?

I removed the shell. Normally with plasti dip you don't have to tape it off but I taped off everything. It just was easier. It took 4 cans of plasti dip and 2 cans of plasti dip gloss. The plasti dip gloss gave it a little shine so it didn't look so flat black. It's been a few months and it's holding up well. Eventually I will take off the plastic dip and spray it with rustoleum bed liner. I like the look.

Talked with dealer Canopy West and they have already talked to ARE and a new one is on order. They told me to keep this one on until the new one arrives July 7. I emailed them and let them no I was not comfortable being held liable for any damage to current wrong topper as I drive down gravel roads and sometimes through construction every day that may or may not start paving and put some oil down on the road. So I did not want to be responsible for any of that but they said it is ok and to just keep it on. Got it all in writing to make sure.

Glad it's working out for you. Alot of people think a regular cab shell fits a AC or a DCLB, it does but it just doesn't look right to me. Maybe I'm a perfectionist.
