I got my cap back from the painter today. It only cost me $300 because the owner of the shop is my daughters friends dad. He helped me reseal it and put it back on. Here's the only picture I got so far. I'll have to take better ones later.
I also ended up getting it pushed forward way more than I thought it would go so it fits a lot better now.

Sup guys. Read through a good 1/3 of this mega thread. Nothing to contribute yet, but hopefully soon - looking to purchase a shell for my 07 Access Cab. Eventually will put in a sleeping platform, so the biggest factor I'm considering is water leakage.

Received quotes on a Leer 100XR (~$2400), an ARE CX (~$2300), and a SnugTop Rebel ($2700) -- At first I was SnugTop all the way due to what seemed to be a consensus over build quality, but the more I read the less certain that perspective became.

I know it's throwing chum into a sharktank, but wanted to ask for opinions specifically on the quality of the seal between each of those brands. Is there a consensus, or is it really as hit-or-miss for each brand as it seems?

Can't wait. Thanks to this thread I found the Desk-to-Dirtbag blog, and am very inspired by his setup. I might even start looking at the Leer 180 / SnugTop Hi-Liner / ARE MX on account of the extra headroom.

    Cheers..

Generally speaking, the roof won't leak ;) it's the seals in between. Most installers use a foam weather strip, which works for a while. However, after a while the foam can break down. It is still a good seal, most of the time. The bed and cap will bend differently when the truck flexes. Over time, the foam stops expanding to fill the gaps when the truck flexes. So really, the question on sealing the cap is dependent on the installer, not the manufacturer. Once it is time to change out the old seal for a new one, or when you are first installing it, look for something like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pickup-Truc...-8ft-bed-/221943671056?_trksid=p2352135.l4275

I found this gem for $250. Its currently off the truck and in the garage. Windows are out of it and trying to decide if i want to paint it, have it painted, or have it wrapped.

Good score! Found mine for $250 as well. Has a thick reinforced fiberglass roof to take on more weight like a rtt. Going to keep it black.2880abaa-6cc6-45ac-8efd-cfe10c4ae1cc.jpg

Thx man, right back at ya!.
First brand new vehicle I ever bought.
I flip flop alot on how i want it to look. Currently running a wilco tiregate and toolbox. Now it looks like im going to have to get rid of both if im going to use the topper.

I really wanted to go with a softopper with a custom bed bar exo system like @ChamYota has, but this deal was to good to pass up.

Ive been quoted right at $300 for a vinyl wrap and pretty much the same for an maaco paintjob. If you do all the prepwork yourself before paint, it will look a lot nicer.
